When I try to install MX-14, then the Computer via USB shows quickly the window for the choices:
MX-14-Symbiosis (27 March 2014)
Command Line Install
Root persistence
...
Boot Options: quiet 3 antiX=MLXD

I chose MX-14-Symbiosis , for the other options I would need further explanations and guidance.
The kernel is getting started and I can read the following on the screen.

early console in decompress_kernel

Decompressing Linux ... Parsing ELF ... No relocation needed ... done.
Booting the kernel.
_ (Blinking _ and after that nothing else, the screen stays like that, the light in the USB turns off. I can't find any keys to continue with something.

I don't know the reason for not being able to start the Distro.
Is there anybody out there, who can help?

With greetings from Taiwan,
TianLan

I'll hazard a guess that it is the ATI graphics causing the problem. Maybe try booting with an edit on the grub boot command line to include 'nomodeset'.

Done, the problem was created by the combination of ASUS and using UNetBootin. Solved by using another USB creator and disabling wireless in the BIOS before install.

It needs another USB creator like:

or http://www.pendrivel...-easy-as-1-2-3/ or"Penndrive Limited", which you recommended. I used the first in the list. Since it is one for Windows I needed to find Windows operated machine first. I guess there are also Linux Installer, which would have done.

I tried to boot from the USB twice, first it was not successful, then after following the advice from PCNetSpec An administrator from the peppermint forum he wrote: 'You might also want to try disabling wireless in the BIOS .. at least during the install.'

PCNEtSpec wrote and gave a few links related to this Problem on further ASUS machines:

"Just because the LiveUSB works on other machines does NOT mean the Asus likes it.

I've read all over the web that a LiveCD will probablly work:

or that disabling the wireless adapter and trying a different USB creator might work:

You could also try what's mentioned in the last posting here:

"

Thanks to all who helped to solve this problems.

One further note on the subject. Today I did the following:

installed a distro on the harddrive of that ASUS
after install booted from the harddrive - the distro worked except for the wireless
shut down
start into the Bios Setup to unlock the `Wireless Network Interface`
Grub loaded- chose to start the distro, the process stopped with a blinking:_
back to the Bios Setup
in the list of the '1/0 Interface settings'
left the `Wireless Network Interface` unlocked, because it is needed
this time locked 'New Card Interface'
booted from the harddrive - luckily the distro worked again

The computer can perform well under different distros.
I tried peppermint 4, bodhilinux and now it is running with mx14 as OS.
The owner enjoys her now very fast machine very much.
