Hey Everyone,

I'm needing a light weight browser that will run at a decent speed unlike FF 45.x ESR which creeps along at a snails pace.
I noticed in the control center that there are some browsers that I can download but will they run any better than FF.

My 12 year old computer.

$ inxi -Fx
System: Host: emachines-T3092 Kernel: 4.0.5-antix.3-486-smp i686 (32 bit gcc: 4.9.3)
Desktop: IceWM 1.3.8
Distro: antiX-15.1_386-full Killah P 18 February 2016

Machine: Mobo: First model: AU31 v: PCB 1.x
Bios: Phoenix v: TCB426G date: 03/30/2004

CPU: Single core AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (-UP-) cache: 512 KB
flags: (pae sse) bmips: 4343 speed: 2171 MHz (max)

Memory: 2.0 GB DDR 400 [PNY]

Graphics: NVIDIA NV34 [GeForce FX 5200]
Resolution: 1024x768@60.00hz

Audio: NVIDIA nForce2 AC97 Audio Controler (MCP)

Network: NVIDIA nForce2 Ethernet Controller speed: 100 Mbps

Drives: HDD model: ST3120022A size: 120.0GB

Thanks

I don't know if they will run"better", but I think netsurf and qupzilla are both lighter.

dillo (pre-installed) is super light, although feature limited. but dillo + streamlight (also pre installed) gives a decent youtube experience. see my video here:

A browser that is able to show everything the modern Internet throws at it, yet will run acceptably fast on 10 year-old hardware, probably doesn't exist. I do a lot of testing for a number of distros, and it's a conundrum yet to be solved.

Why not try one or more of the other browsers on offer first? The only cost might be if you have data restrictions from your ISP, but none of them are big downloads.

I run Iceweasel on an Atom 1.6GHz with 2Gb ram machine quite happily, but I rarely have more than 2 tabs open at a time.

Looks like you may be using a lot of tabs, if so, close some.

Hey All,

Thanks for the input.
I think my problems are due to the fact that my processor is limited to sse instruction as it is old.

CPU: Single core AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (-UP-) cache: 512 KB
flags: (pae sse) bmips: 4343 speed: 2171 MHz (max)

Tried to run slimjet and it doesn't support my processor.
I will give the pre-installed and a try and see how they workout.
As far as open tabs just running one a open at a time.

Thanks for all of the input as it is always good to get other user input.

Thanks .

Are you running adblock plus & noscript?

(They usually help with slow browsing.)

uBlock Origin kills more ad servers, which is what really hangs up the browsers. And uses less ram than does adblock plus.

Howdy and Welcome __{{emoticon}}__ . I think I've seen you around the Murga/Puppy forums.

Hey All,

As far as I know I'm not running any ad block.
If ad block is running it came enabled at the time of install.
I will have to check into that.

Netsurf runs well and pretty much will work for web surfing.

Dillo is ok also.
How does one clear browser history in Dillo?

@rokytnji
Yes I run Puppy 64 tahrpup so I'm on the Murga/Puppy forums.

Well I'm off to play with my new browser and learn more about it.
One thing for sure is I have learned a lot of new stuff using antix 15.1 as to the way things are done.
Really different then standard OEM mainstream Linux distros.
When I first started using Puppy I thought it had a little bit of a learning curve but I believe antix has it beat as there is more to do to make things work.

Oh well I'm learning and having fun and that is what is important.
I also saved a 12 year old computer from the scrap grave yard.

Thanks to all for your input as it helps a new one get things working better.

Hey All,

Went into control center and into network and into adblock and nothing was checked so I then saw UNblock and checked it and then hit apply so hopefully if adblock was enabled that disabled it.

Uhm, I think you would want to block ads, not let them all in?
