USB devices are not automounting. Scratching head, interwebs not proving too helpful. Seen edits of org.freedesktop.udisks.policy, but sadly this file doesn't exist on my box. As the title says I've installed xfce4.8 and gdm3 on a nice flat antiX Core 12 and thunar usually manages this stuff. Not at the moment though.

So all pointers for antiX gratefully received. __{{emoticon}}__

do you have thunar-volman installed and part of the xfce session startup?

Thunar needs to be run in daemon mode for automounting. With antiX this means adding

Code: Select all

thunar --daemon &
to .xinitrc-custom
* MiscVolumeManagement (FALSE/TRUE)

This option requires both HAL and the thunar-volman package
to be installed. If enabled and Thunar runs as daemon (see the
--daemon command line option), Thunar will watch for new devices
being added and perform appropriate volume management, which
means that if you plug in a new device, that is handled by the
volume manager, it will try to automatically spawn the appropriate
application or mount the device if it contains a mountable
volume (i.e. an USB stick).

Hmmm...I do have thunar-volman (and hal) installed. I added an item into Session and Startup | Application Autostart - the command I used was

Code: Select all

usr/bin/thunar-volman
thunar-volman (still) does not show up as running in the Session tab...

I added

Code: Select all

thunar --daemon &
to ~/.xinitrc-custom too...

All to no avail, Thunar is still ignoring USB sticks and SD cards.

It puts a menu item called"Removable Drives and Media" in"Preferences" so you can tell it what you want it to do, which is also to be reached from Thunar/edit/preferences.

Of course, you could make a custom action to run any other mount program.

I appreciate all the input, but I never stop attempting to solve my own issues. Fortunately I have two installs of antiX so after all the failed fixes I can go back to flat system and test the fix. Hopefully I can then distill it to only the steps actually required and it doesn't doesn't depend on any of the changes I made on the way to getting it up and running.

I installed thunar-volman of course, but I also needed hal and gvfs (and maybe udisks, I did install udisks to my netbook, before the breakthrough installation of gvfs, however it was installed on my desktop, by default it seems).

When I translated the fix to my other installation (desktop) I didn't edit any of the config files or add any entries into Session and Startup.

Hope this fix works for othe antiX users. __{{emoticon}}__

Since using antiX I find Rox is just great. It does exactly what you want when you want it to. Spacefm and Thunar need extensive study of the help-files, and some of us are averse to reading long involved nstruction manuals. Instuction manuals are for getting you out of the crap once you've screwed everything up completely __{{emoticon}}__ __{{emoticon}}__

Thunar seems to be somewhat lacking in information and Spacefm seems to have complicated instructions. e.g. kernel polling - is that required in antiX?

Thunar, when I tried it last, had no Trash folder, and I couldn't find out why.

Rox just works.

What I did like about Thunar is all the custom actions you can create to do just about anything you want.

I've been experimenting with Spacefm and now find you can create the equivalent of Thunar"custom actions" by using"Design Mode".
