Hello
Looking for a lightweight distro on my eepc 701, I tried AntiX 7.5.
It runs smoothly from an external CDRom. I liked the look, screen resolution supported out of the box, great choice of apps, and since it is debian based, I would customize it to my needs.
Tried the install to hard disk: 1) to my SDHC card 2) to an USB stick
Installed grub to the / partition
Rebooted
Edited the boot line (to hd(0,0))
And got a kernel panic...
I tried the traditional noapic acpi=off options without success.
I don't have my eeepc at hand and cannot post the exact kernel panic message
Has anyone succeeded in installing Antix 7.5 on this hardware
Thanks to all

I believe anti has a how-to for installing to usb here. Are you avoiding overwriting your existing install?

Thanks eriefisher for the help
You are very responsive
i did a"hard-drive" install to the stick using the install icon in the live-CD session.
formatted the stick to ext2 using gparted (the USB stick looked like /dev/sdc)
maybe I'll try to install to the USB stick as a live-CD image.
But my intent is to have a"HD" install
thanks again for the link to the wbar

If I remember correctly, if you do a hard-drive install to a usb stick, you need to use initrd too (I guess the same for the sdhc card). The installer asks around about the install grub part.
You may need to edit the grub/menu to point to the UUID rather than /dev/sda or /dev/hda.
See the excellent sidux manual for help how to do this. (It works in antiX too)
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://manual.sidux.com/en/part-uuid-en.htm#uuid"
linktext was:"http://manual.sidux.com/en/part-uuid-en.htm#uuid"
====================================
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false
Hopefully we'll get antiX working on the eeepc.

i need the initrd line !
i'll post my menu.lst tomorrow

Ok, AntiX boots fine and flies...
After installation to the USB stick, the menu.lst entries look like:
title MEPIS at sdc1, newest kernel
root (hd1,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sdc1 nomce quiet splash vga=791
boot
Entries should be modified:
title MEPIS on my USB stick, newest kernel
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=UUID=fcd9xxx--uuid-of-my-device-xxx nosplash vga=791
initrd /boot/initrd.img
I hope it will help...
(though i don't know where the 'boot' line comes from. at the install, grub detected the Xandros install and added the initrd line for booting into the original xandros kernel)
Thanks for the link to the sidux manual. very helpful.
Now I have a problem with internet connection (eth and wifi). going to open a new thread...
