Hi,
I've done a fresh install of M11-base. When trying to open Ceni from the control center menu, the desktop freezes completly at the moment when the terminal shows up, but still without Ceni in it.
This didn't happen while trying the live cd. The laptop is HP Probook 4310s Intel Celeron. The wireless driver is Broadcom 802.11, I don't know what other information could be useful for you.

Thanks for your help.

Does ceni come up ok in a terminal?
If you want to try this, in a terminal type:

su

then your password
and then type

ceni

I'm running M11 (but the last patched up release; not the final release) and I don't see your problem on this box.

Hope this helps,

Pedro

I'm sorry but I'm stumped. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will have some suggestions or a solution.

Had the same problem in 8.5 also with ceni. But only on certain hardware like my EEEPC 900. It would spike the cpu at 100%. If I was patient. It would take a bit/some time, but ceni would finally finish loading and cpu would settle down. Then I could use ceni.

I decided using rutilt was easier in base and added rutilt & to fluxbox startup in base instead.

I was suspecting it could be about to wait, but I didn't know if it was good for the laptop. It also happened to me with 8.5-base previously, so I changed to the full version. I had no patience either.
I'll try again with M11-base waiting for the cpu.
Thank you.

I get the same problem on a EeePC 701 with M11 Base on it, if I wait a couple of minutes, Ceni finally loads and works well. Patience is the key here.....

Any idea what is the cause? Is it ceni itself or something else ie the terminal?
Just guessing, it probably is ceni.
What if you open ceni in urxvt rather than roxterm?

Kinda off topic. But I am posting on my 2 gig Kingston antix2usb persistent AntiX 11 I686.base on my Acer Aspire One ZG5 (160gig sata drive version 1 gig of ram Atom processor)

This is a different breed from a full install of base to hardrive. Ceni connects OK via hardline but wlan0 in ceni for me is always a no go (inept carbon face interface probably) __{{emoticon}}__ .
Rutilt segfaults from command line. So to get wireless going I connected to landline via ceni first. Then

Code: Select all

sux
type in"root" for password.

Code: Select all

apt-get update
let it finsh

Code: Select all

apt-cache policy wicd
When version of wicd shows. I go ahead and install wicd.

Code: Select all

apt-get install wicd
When done install wicd. I do

Code: Select all

wicd &
To make sure the wicd deamon started up. Then to run wicd as user

Code: Select all

exit
Hit enter
Then type in

Code: Select all

demo@antiX1:/aufs/home/demo$ which wicd-gtk
/usr/bin/wicd-gtk
to make sure where the gui command is and that it is there.

Then type in

Code: Select all

wicd-gtk
Click on the icon in my slit in fluxbox. Add wlan0 to preferences in wicd under wireless interface.

Go ahead and hit refresh and connect up with wicd. Open up ceni and remove my eth* connection config interface I made earlier. Because from now on I will be using wicd for hardline also.

Code: Select all

ifconfig -a
as root in terminal will show what connections are available for wicd when i change hardware when I plug this pendrive into another computer. Whether wireless or landline also.

Last I go into antix control center and edit fluxbox settings/startup tab in geany.

Code: Select all

# wmnd &
# wmsmixer -w &
 wicd-client &
# halevt &
Just uncomment/remove # in front of wicd-client & to autostart wicd during bootup. Preferences like dhclient instead of Automatic or measure signal strength in db is up to you and your hardware. Whatever works for you to connect.

As I had no patience, I changed M11-base by the full version and Ceni just freezes again. Maybe it is about hardware? Anyway the wireless connection is almost always difficult for me.
I'm going to try the idea of anti and rokytnji tomorrow. rokytnji, thanks for such a howto post __{{emoticon}}__

Ok, 30 minutes waiting for ceni in urxvt terminal. Just freezing with a noisy fan. No more ceni for my laptop.
