we still have a lot of love for Puppy Linux and all it’s derivatives, (but) sometimes it’s hard to make certain packages work,
especially newer packages. This is just the first test of whether or not we’re going to move to a Debian base for Simplicity
I'm left wondering whether forum member"jtwdyp" is the SimplicityLinux principal? Recent posts about openbox, lxde...
searc h. php?author_id=1942&sr=posts

Anyhow, we might see an influx of posts from folks who have booted the simplicityX iso
due to the fact that the antiX live boot"branding" hasn't been replaced, and the simplicity project lacks a user forum, AFAICT.

a nutshell description of this respin (yes, I booted it):
antiX16 base + apt install lxde & apt install chromium & apt purge firefox

some quick notes from my couple live boot sessions:
spacefm and geany are left intact (and lxde pulls in pcmanfm filemanager, lxterminal) but the assemblage of other desktop apps is pretty sparse. From reading the release announcement, I don't understand who is the expected target audience. All the native antiX live-init and persistent stuff is in place, and is working as intended... but simplicity hasn't added an auto-update mechanism for the LXDE (openbox?) desktop menu. Desktop launchers which (IMO) should be suppressed from display within the menu are shown and, notably absent, no"ControlCenter" launcher is displayed in the LXDE desktop menu.

At start of LXDE session, only 89Mb RAM used. At top edge of desktop, lxpanel; at bottom-center,"wbar" dock.
Preinstalled within Chromium browser are several (4or5) addons, including (wtf?) some vpn client"free trial"?
Maybe the"vpn thingie" requires some setup/configuration prior to use?
Whatever the reason (I didn't attempt to investigate) the browser was unable to connect (tried google.com, ebay.com, cnn.com)

Reviewers have repeatedly criticized various Ubuntu-derived"distros" for providing little more than changed wallpaper.
Well, in simplicityX... if a user selects fluxbox, icewm, JWM session, the default antiX seashell wallpaper is there, unchanged.

Unless there's been some behind-the-scenes talk regarding collaboration (and even if there has been)
this simplicityX"release" doesn't even qualify as an antiX"respin". It's more like a"ripoff". It is being heralded via"press releases"
(today already at distrowatch and softpedia) and is likely to create a number of confused, unsupported by simplicity project, new users in its wake.

edited to de-emphasize this last bit, as this post was intended as a news item not an opinion-editorial.
I will point out that the simplicity"team" is repeating the poor communication style
(absence of collaborative communication) which bred speculation and opinionated negativity back in 2013

which says based on Puppy Slackware. Pretty mysterious I guess counting your links and thought.

Later today I'll boot and take a second look. (Well, 5th actually, b/c I already booted several times to setup+test persistence.)
Accurate or not, my initial impression was that this"release" serves as a vehicle for preinstalled"vpn client free trial"
and exhibits minimal attention to detail in terms of otherwise delivering added value.

I won't be able to follow up on this skidoo. After I posted. I had a doctor appointment.

He did not like what he saw and had me checked into the hospital. There is no wifi in my hospital in my small town. So letting you know through my Iphone.
I am using the phone as a personal hotspot.

I have some x-rays and wound care and physical therapy plus other things going on. So"man down" for now.

just tried it out. its pretty rough. if the guy wanted to do a proof of concept, its OK, but labeling it final is a disservice to the antiX community, considering that the live media boot screen says antiX and uses the antiX logos, etc... all the way to the (incomplete) desktop environment. also, wbar opened for me a window rather as a dock, which is weird. many many links in the menu simply do not work (Video Player being the first one I tried).

***edit*** to be fair, it is labeled experimental on the website, but I did not find that immediately obvious.

***edit2*** the boot screen for the live non-experimental version says LxPup, so the live systems are apparently unmodified from the upstream systems.

Here's a May 2015 review of LXpup-derived simplicity by Jack Germain

Sounds as though the reviewer recognizes the value-added features (and approves of selected omissions) of the respin.
and, a year later, another favorable review for newer version

In the day or so following announcement, X version has been downloaded 2400+ times already
(more than the combined downloads of the other puppy-derived versions)
so it has obviously piqued folks' curiosity

d_o, yes, during one session I did see"wbar displayed as a window rather than a dock".
Another quirk I didn't mention earlier: presence of redundant items in lxpanel (volumicon and clipit, IIRC).

"Can't keep a good man down", so I hope that your hospital stay, wound care, physical therapy, and the rest, result in better health and wellness.

Hopefully the lack of Wifi and limited connectivity won't drive you crazy. Rest up and get well my friend! __{{emoticon}}__
