At the moment, the Iceweasel version installed in antiX (and in the repositories) is 3.0.6-1 whereas Firefox is 3.0.9-1mepis1.

Should the Iceweasel versions be following the Firefox versions? If not, why not?

Thanks

Eventually the iceweasel version will get to the Testing repos, but that is a Debian issue.

antix by default comes with testing repos enabled. i have iceweasel 3.0.9 in testing repos. 3.0.6 is in the stable repos. you could enable the testing repos and install iceweasel from there. and then disable them again if you want to keep it stable.

Thanks ICE-M! I'll give that a try. Up until now I had assumed that the Stable repositories would keep things up to date.

Well, stable means that only security issues will be updated or if there are several critical issues then a point release, recently Debian 5.0.0 to 5.0.1.

for a good read:

oldhoghead - There seem to have been
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox30.html#firefox3.0.9"
linktext was:"plenty of security issues fixed in the latest versions of Firefox"

, so shouldn't that mean that Iceweasel gets updated?

There always seem to be plenty of updates to other packages in the Stable repositories when I check for updates each week, so it doesn't make sense to me that Iceweasel isn't updated.

What am I missing?

Thanks

there are 3 debians repos(not including the experimental one):
unstable: the programs have bugs and many packages get broken often
testing: the programs have minor bugs or none and the packages get broken rarely
stable: everything works and nothing gets broken to keep the system stable __{{emoticon}}__

every program passes through the debian repos from unstable > testing > stable. so for example iceweasel needs to stay some time in the unstable repos to find bugs or an incompatibility with other packages or dependencies, then it gets moved in testing and after a time it gets in stable. this is my understanding of the debian repos.
