Very nice! Congrats!
I noticed that it lists default desktop for 8.5 as KDE. Some sort of typo?

Congratulations, anti! Well done! I am looking forward to seeing more people hearing about antiX and trying it. I've certainly been trying to do my part for several years now, but this definitely helps to get the word out more! Great move!anticapitalista wrote:Well I have followed majority rule.

It looks like that has now been fixed; now shows up that IceWM is the default desktop and that IceWM and Fluxbox are offered in the standard configuration. (Of course, veterans know that with the excellent smxi tool it is really easy to add and configure several additional environments, including KDE if you so desire).plvera wrote:Very nice! Congrats!

Congratulations. Looks good at Distrowatch.
The main reason I'd have done this long ago is to be helpful to people who weren't clear on where to find antiX. Putting it on Distro is simply practical.
The only reason I'd have hesitated is that antiX began as the successor to Mepis Lite (which will always be dear to the heart of early Mepis users). Does the evolution of antiX create a vacancy for a new Mepis Lite?

IMO a new Mepis-Lite would have to be xfce and based on squeeze (next stable) and not rolling like antiX.
It wouldn't be as light as antiX, but it would be more user-friendly as xfce comes with some nice tools.

It's possible someone will come forward with a new Lite Mepis based on their own preferences. But the original Mepis Lite arose before Base or Core versions of Mepis were available (if I recall). Now it's so easy to start with a Base antiX and add on whatever you want that a Mepis Lite seems superfluous. That's why I thought you might market antiX as a standalone *or* as a base for a lighter Mepis. But many here have made the point that antiX may be diverging too far from Mepis for that to be any longer advisable. ??anticapitalista wrote:IMO a new Mepis-Lite would have to be xfce and based on squeeze (next stable) and not rolling like antiX.

great news! too bad that we still advertise for old computers. also i see that there is a list with packages in the bottom of the page that lists a lot of programs that are not in antix.

We might want to mention that we specialize in working on Pentium based systems that are anything from the latest supported by Debian to the the fairly early Pentium systems, and list the restrictions, and also point out that while we specialize in older systems and custom configurations, we also work really well with relatively recent systems too, and that the programs listed in DistroWatch that"are not in antiX" are certainly available and easily installed from the repositories that are included and enabled by default.ICE-M wrote:great news! too bad that we still advertise for old computers. also i see that there is a list with packages in the bottom of the page that lists a lot of programs that are not in antix.

Since I have not seen anyone answer the question I had asked earlier in this thread, I will try again.
I am confused over the proper full name for antiX; I originally knew it as"antiXMEPIS" but I have subsequently seen, right here in this form as well as elsewhere,"antiXLinux" being used.
Was there a change at some point?
As to how this is relevant to this thread, I think it should be pretty obvious: To the extent that"MEPIS" has been dropped from the name of the"antiX" distro-- whether officially or otherwise-- wouldn't that suggest all the more reason for antiX having a distinct entry on Distrowatch and otherwise being treated as a separate entity from MEPIS?
Also, regarding the antiX section at the"MEPIS Lovers" forums, just what is the difference that and this site? Is there any reason for one to choose one over the other? And if not, may I ask what the point is in the redundancy of having two separate forums?
EDIT: Congrats on the Distrowatch entry!

D_R no real change in the name as you can see from the release names in all versions of antiX since 6.5 (is antiX-Mxx.iso). It is consistent. See here:

antiX is still based on MEPIS, using the MEPIS kernel and some of its tools, though it is more Debian Testing than MEPIS. antiX is developed completely separately from MEPIS, though MEPIS lets us use its server and mirror connections.
Hope this helps.

For the last 7 days, antiX Linux is ranked #46, which is quite a feat considering that it was added in today's issue of Distrowatch Weekly.
