I have a m3u file that I want to launch using Audacious. I set the run action to use the command audacious. Works fine. When I open for example my smb.conf file, it opens in Audacious instead of my text editor which is leafpad. What do I need to do so that only the m3u files open in Audacious and the text files open in Leafpad?

I tried the two options at the top of the set run action window. Didn't work.

I think the problem here is that the m3u file is also a text file by mime-type. rox uses mime-types to assign applications to launch rather than extensions.

Thanks for the clarification. So is there any way I can set all .m3u files to open in Audacious and all text files to open in leafpad? Do I have to tweak something in Rox?

well, i've been trying a few things and they don't seem to be sticking in rox. in spacefm this is easy, you just choose a default application for the .m3u file. but that only works in spacefm.

in rox, it may be easier to customize the sendto menu for .m3u files. right click and m3u file and choose customize. you'll get a rox sendto window with some links in it. drag a link for the app you want to add (audacious in your case) from another rox window to the sendto window. close the rox windows and reopen. rightclicking the m3u file and select sendto then your app.

That was as close as I could get in rox.

Thanks!

I will try it in spacefm as well. I gather this is your favorite file manager?

spacefm is my favorite. don't get me wrong, rox is great and has some cool tricks with the drag and drop, but development effectively stopped in 2005. but its light and super super fast.

if you try spacefm and like it, try the spacefm versions of the antix desktop. it works more like a traditional folder type desktop than the link pinboard of rox.

I'll give spacefm another try. My problem with spacefm is that I found it confusing after using some of the features. I need to watch more videos on spacefm to get a better understanding of how it works and what I can do with the features if offers.

I'll check out your videos again. I had no idea that Rox wasn't being developed anymore.

Any other recommendations regarding spacefm? Thanks for your help and advice!!
