Anyone try Semplice Linux, which is a light Italian distro based on Debian Sid that uses Openbox as its WM
The desktop is clean and solid dark blue with the tinti2 panel...so pleasing to the eye!

Downloading to take a look see. Got pretty bored with Ubuntu 11.10 real fast like. Resource hogs aren't my bag. I like choppers instead of barge wagons.

Oh well. Failed to boot via usb on my Acer Aspire one zg5 . Couldn't find kernel vesa error.
(not exact message<but close enough). The culprit I guess is in syslinux.cfg
Looks to still be in Beta stage also. I used the same method I used for making the Ubuntu 11.10 bootable pendrive also.I blew away Ubuntu 11.10 on that pendrive. Fresh Fat 32. Md5sum checked iso. Maybe try a different usb creator later. May be Pebkac related issue also. __{{emoticon}}__

Got by the pebkac issue by typing in help at boot prompt and then typing in live on next screen and hit enter.
Some Stats
Seems a bit like Crunchbang. Network Manager instead of Wicd. Flash works. Touchpad tap works. Sound Works. Uses Abiword and Pcmanfm 0.9.9. Chromium 14.0.835.202 browser. What I got running conky & in terminal (Did not start conky on boot, black background on blue screen). Screw it. Screenshot won't upload on this site with their browser.
Jury still out on this one till I get a better feel for it. Found out it saves the screenshot in a unloadable name.

not bad...yes there are some bugs still with Semplice and I was able to reproduce some of them, and might pass on the screenshot filename problem to the devs there. Definitely it is another great distro to add to the list of light distros like AntiX, Crunchbang and ArchBang. Another thing is that it's Italian (yes I am half Italian __{{emoticon}}__ )
Yes conky is there but only has a stock .conkyrc that you might need to tweak to your own taste but a saner default might be in order.

Of course if you prefer wicd instead of network-manager you can always remove NM and then install wicd in its place

Network manager works and since this is a live usb with persistence I don't want to start uninstalling and installing other default apps if I can help it. This pendrive install is just a look see/test drive any hows.
I will post in this thread later on how this install works on my other gear later. I am on my Motorcycle shop Desktop right now in AntiX 11 Base i686 right now. Damn cats woke me up, (feed me). Going back to bed after this post.
All in all so far. I miss some of the default tools that Dave and everybody else on the AntiX team, lagopus,BitJam ,dolphin_oracle, and eriefisher ,(if I missed someone, my bad, I'm sleepy), include in AntiX by default.
I have not tried smxi yet either in Semplice to see if it is there or locate package either yet. I'm a spoiled brat that way. __{{emoticon}}__

__{{emoticon}}__ That's a good sign. Thumbs up from me.
How I think their conky should look
almixer gui went off the screen lengthwise. I could drag it around though with alt+left click on touchpad. Tap works, Sound works,Flash works. Noticed time was wrong after I posted. Fixed by

smxi works in Semplice...I tested it as this is a 100% Debian Sid compatible distro and it is supposed to not work on live distros as GRUB generally isn't set up

I.ve been doing these posts as a favor for you DeepDayze since you seem to be involved with this distro. This is going to be my last test on hardware with this distro. I am just giving you results on my netbooks as I know these kind of tests I am doing are on popular netbooks in Europe.
This is off my EEEPC 701SD.
Tap,Sound and video resolution OK. All my wireless connections in all my posts have worked on wpa2 psk with pass phrase.
Just a short test to show that this is a viable distro for tis modell of EEEPC also besides the other 2 netbook posts I made in this thread.
I should also mention pcmanfm accesses AntiX and Windows Partiions (windows XP is on the Acer Aspire one)
That is it from me. Hope that helped ya.

I have an instance of Semplice 2.0.2 installed. I added Xfce to it. My setup runs using Sid repos and it runs well. But my two best-running Sid setups of all are Debian Sid, a system that I personally customized from a Debian Live Squeeze CD that I requested - customized - back when Squeeze was in testing, and my other one is antiX core. The siduction 12.1.1 KDE edition is nice for a full desktop and their Xfce build is also quite nice for a somewhat lighter setup. I will say that siduction's KDE setup is the best current KDE setup that I've found.
Hard to beat Debian Sid and antiX core though. I can do exactly what I want with them, especially since I built them with the packages that I use.
