I recently decided to go with a 64-bit distro on my old desktop -- a Shuttle KPC with E8400 Core2Duo and 2GB RAM.
Having tried it previously with limited success, I went with Salix64-lxde-13.37. Wow! The devs there have really
made great progress with both appearance and functionality. Dep management is really no problem, now, with the
Gslapt Package Manager and I remain very impressed with the appearance of the LXDE. It went on a SATA 120GB Seagate.

Cleaning up another 120GB Seagate hard drive, this time an IDE, I installed Salix64-fluxbox-13.37. It is noticeably
quicker than the lxde version. Only thing faster I've found recently is antiX-M11-base-686 with 2.6.35 liquorix kernel
via smxi installed on an old 40GB Quantum Fireball.

After 2 1/2 years of distro-hopping, I have settled on these two as what suits me

Check out Salix 13.37 at

Hi SaminBare. I used to run Zenwalk a ways back before the developer wars there.

Is Salix where the guys that left ZenWalk went to, or started a fork?

I cannot answer that because I do not know. But should you visit the forum there, I'm certain you would receive an answer to your question.

Thanks for the response, rokytnji.

BTW, thanks are also due dark-D, SamK and you for clearing up a question about USB devices in a previously-posted thread!

Yes, Salix came about because of the disagreements. It is a very nice distro, Slackware based, runs quite fast.
