Hey everyone, been out of the loop for quite a while, started using a imac decided to dual boot and run antiX instead of OSX. I have been dealing with problems, not much info out there so I have been resolving the issues I run into in bits and pieces.I am currently running antiX 16 64bit on my imac, so far I've figured out how to get to a virtual terminal and back, used smxi to get up to speed, just got thru getting the isight camera working. If anyone is interested, I could document the steps I used. Will update this post as I make progress.
Cheers,
ohh

Does it work ok, except for the isight thing?
I believe that is the same machine my mom has sitting around, doing nothing.
From the specs, I think it looks like a nice machine?

Ok, here is imac specs, then a follow up to my first post
Using rEFind to dual boot
1 Boot up your current imac, you will need to create a partition for your antiX to install to, simple to do on a mac,
use disk utility to shrink the partition and choose the size you want for your antiX partition.
then get rEFind from------------>
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"https://sourceforge.net/projects/refind/"
linktext was:"https://sourceforge.net/projects/refind/"
====================================
2. install rEFind
3. shutdown (don't just reboot) and then restart and then install antiX
4. reboot and start antiX
5. To activate the isight camera(web cam) go to synaptic search for isight, install firmware, during the firmware install
you will be asked for the location of the file:"/System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBVideoSupport.kext/Contents/MacOS"
6. Use a file browser to navigate to the"/System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBVideoSupport.kext/Contents/MacOS" folder,
on the Mac OS X partition.
7. Locate the"AppleUSBVideoSupport" file and copy it to the Documents folder.
8. Complete the firmware install with the correct path to the"AppleUSBVideoSupport" file you just copied to Documents,
example: /home/username/Documents/AppleUSBVideoSupport of course replace username with your own.
9 The iSight firmware is extracted and placed in the"/lib/firmware" folder, under the name of"isight.fw"
10 Shutdown, then restart and use guvcview and your webcam should be up and running.
In order to get to a virtual terminal on most keyboards Ctrl-Alt-F1
on a mac usb keyboard use Ctrl-Alt-Fn-F1
hope it works for you
Cheers
