Hello!
I migrated from Ubuntu 10.04 to antix. Thanks to everybody who created it.
It is running nicely on my beloved IBM T23 160G/1G.

I just deinstalled Goggles Music manager because of the missing (or not working?) drag&drop feature,
and several other reasons (100% of CPU, no tagging-feature)
So, I tried to replace it with rhythmbox. (pulseaudio? Never!)

Problem 1): Rhythmbox did not install correctly.

With the preinstalled repos I got errors:

I reinstalled rhytymbox (and python) and rhythmbox appears in the antiX menu.
But rhythmbox does not start up! (HDD-access-LED blinks, Programm does not appear.)

Problem 2) since these changes, roxterm just flashes up in a window but disappers immediately!
I have access to X- Root-Terminal, console via ctrl-alt-Fx works fine as well.

What to do? Any help is appreciated!

Did you perhaps change a theme around the same time? try one of the adwaita or Mediterranean themes and see if you problem clears up.

This is for problem number 1.
This is what, I do to fix missing, and broken dependence files.

run first as root.

Code: Select all

dpkg --configure -a
Then

Code: Select all

apt-get update && apt-get -f install
If that dose not work one of the next two will.

Code: Select all

apt-get --fix-broken install
,and or

Code: Select all

apt-get install --fix-missing

@dolphin_oracle: I did not change any themes at this time. Encouraged by your reply, I switched from Antix-red to something else and back to Antix-red. No changes.

@Eino: Sorry, none of them helped.
Rhythmbox and roxterm behave exactly the same as described above.

Working from console (Ctrl-Alt-F1) as root
apt-get gave the message:
The following packages were installed automatically, and were not used any more:
libclass-isa-perl libfox-1.6-0 libgraphicsmagick3 libibus-1.0-0 libproxy0
libqt4-gui libslp1 libswitch-perl libvcdinfo0 libwmf0.2-7 libxine1
libxine1-bin libxine1-ffmpeg libxine1-misc-plugins libxine1-plugins

I apt-get autoremoved them as recommended.

There are still 786 packages to be updated.
According to my experiences with Ubuntu, my system was fucked up after an update -
That's why I became a bit shy just doing updates... Shall I dare it this time?

Back to X, I tried to open geany and nano by clicking them on the menu:
- geany could open a window; normal behaviour
- nano could not open a window; it just flashes up briefly same behaviour as roxterm...

Open lxappearence in a terminal (do as user and afterwards as root) and choose one of the medittaranean themes or clearlooks. Rox and gtk3 apps shpould open ok.

If you have 786 packages to be updated, it means you are either using the Debian Testing repos, or Sid/unstable. Do you really want to use those repos or keep to Stable/Wheezy?

RhythmBox installs fine with wheeze's repositories, I would suggest going back to stable,or wheeze's repositories
and try a re-install of RhythmBox.. If you have broken packages, the fix is my first post, but use stable, or wheeze's repositories.

Thanks! The issue is solved!
(In the following I describe the details.)

@ anti: under X the only terminal availiable from the menu is the root-terminal.
I opened it and su to username.
indigo@T160i:~
$ lxappearance
No protocol specified Error: could not open display.

Then I exit user, and beeig root again. lxappereance opened up fine.
I choose MediterranianNight, apply, close.
geany opens up, rhythmbox and terminal not. => no improvement.
logout - login makes no changes.
I repeated the procedure above with clearlooks. (without beeing user first...)
No changes - rhythmbox and terminal do not open up.

__{{emoticon}}__ Yes, I used the testing-repos (without beeing aware...).
I changed them to wheezy/stable manually (using synaptic), ran into unsolvable dependencies.
I restarted synaptic again and updated the proposed packages.
Then I forced especially the libgtk3-x and libgtk2.x packages to the stable version.
Synaptic did not like to install rhythmbox, so I deinstalled it.
I applied the changes.
Since then calling terminal from menu worked again!

On console I su to root, then doing dpkg --configure -a.
and

Code: Select all

apt-get install rhythmbox
everything seems to work now!

Thanks for your help, I consider the issue to be solved.
The crunch was to define the right repo. __{{emoticon}}__
Thanks a lot !!!

You must use lxapperence as user. It is also in the antiXcontrol centre - Change gtk2 and icon themes
