Rox and ivman is not working on my box for mounting devices and so I have to use pcmanfm and then open rox /media. Unmounting in rox works ok.

Now a better solution!

Remove ivman (if you have it) and install halevt.

#apt-get install halevt

Make sure you have this line in fluxbox/icewm startup file

halevt &

Then restart icewm/fluxbox and then halevt

#/etc/init.d/halevt restart

Plugin your usb stick, go to rox /media and your stick should be there.

good tip anti. i'll try it tonight.
edit: i tried it and i like it. it mounts the sticks very fast and as far that i can see mounting in pcmanfm is a lot faster than before.
also halevt is added to the startup services. i found it in rcconf, do i really need to add it to the startup of fluxbox ?

I tried to get this to work, but no luck so far. I can start halevt but rox does not see the usb stick, whereas pcmanfm does.

Also, is there a way to run the halevt start automatically, so that I don't have to do it as root?

thanks.

P.S. Never mind. It does work, it just shows up under media (which is different from pcmanfm). This is a good tip since I had not used rox because of the limitation with usb. Now I only have to automate the halevt restart!

On a fresh install of AntiX 8.2 which repository should I add to get halevt?

xauth: creating new authority file /root/.Xauthority

Thanks Pedro. I will compare yours to mine . I just did a fresh install on a 8 gig micro drive out of a Ipod that I interfaced with one of my Laptops. My wife ended up with the hardrive out of this laptop. I put it in a IBM A22 I refurbished, so this one is now running off a Seagate 8 gig micro hardrive out of a Ipod. Works good so far. Just installed a few minutes ago.

I'll wait and see before I do. I already edited Icewm startup by placing

########## PLAY STARTUP SOUND #########

halevt &
rm $HOME/.config/nitrogen/bg-saved.cfg
ln -s $HOME/.config/nitrogen/bg-saved-icewm.cfg $HOME/.config/nitrogen/bg-saved.cfg
nitrogen --restore &

Just a quick update. I decided to remove halvet & line entry in startup of icewm till I figure out why I can't install halvet. I just opened Synaptic and did a search for halvet and nothing
turned up there either. So something is fishy since my sources.lst matches yours. So I am back to square one on this.

Code: Select all

# See sources.list(5) for more information

# Note:If you want maximum stability, only use the stable repos.
# If you want to install kde3.5, you MUST only use the stable repos.

Just a follow up post. Did a apt-get update as root and installed halevt. Edited fluxbox and icewm startup menus. Restarted halevt deamon in terminal, (it was already running when installed). Works just fine. My mistake in not doing a apt-get upgrade first before trying to install halevt for anybody reading this thread. Thanks again Anti.

Also, is there a way to run the halevt start automatically, so that I don't have to do it as root?
So is there a way to start halevt automatically? If there is, this would be so easy for mounting; I like rox better than pcmanfm for most things.
Thanks!

It does start automatically on boot. There is probably no need to add halevt & to fluxbox and icewm startup files either.

Using rox works beautifully now! I did add"halvevt &" to my fluxbox startup file; I missed not needing it earlier.
Thanks, anti!
