just had a friend try to register on the forum on my computer, it asks for a mobile phone number to be able to register ..... as that is an invasion of privacy, he won't register. Why would you want our private numbers? This doesn't sound like the antiX forum that I signed up to! I'm with him, I don't want people I don't even know to be calling me and wasting my minutes with sales pitches, surveys etc. Talk about Big Brother! I've noticed that Google is doing the same thing, and they are hooked into the same 'so-called' we-will-protect-your-privacy scam that Facebook, twitter, and all the other anti-'social networking' scam/phishing exercises that you are getting into. Sorry, but this is just too much, I expected better of your forum Anti.

OK, created the account (left it inactive for now) and was not asked for a mobile number. Where does it get asked? on first login, or in the captcha?

I notice Google's been asking for a mobile number for protecting my account...I certainly don't trust the motive for it and I'm sure hackers will go for that if they ever do hijack my gmail.

Sorry I laid that at your door, I didn't know that the forum provider could screw with the registration process!

It was during the registration phase at the captcha, he didn't even get to a login, when he put in all the name, location etc., did the captcha (which was more of an advertisement for an online travel agency[maybe Travelocity?] or something than it was a true captcha because it asked questions about what was in the vid ) ; it wouldn't continue without a phone number. He put in a phony number, but it recognized that and shut it down unless he put in a working number. Maybe it has something to do with coming from my computer? Although, that wouldn't seem right because the mac addy is not the same as when I originally registered.

I was just trying to help a friend get onto the forum so he could get help with his new Linux experience - with antiX! He has gone now, so I'm just passing on what I know about what happened.

Certainly don't blame your friend for not wanting to give phone details. I'll look at the captcha settings and see if I can change them.

Try using another captcha plugin, if it is allowed

Found out it was Expedia, not Travelocity (maybe I've been hearing too many ads on my wife's"Survivor" or"Amazing Race" episodes __{{emoticon}}__ ) I can't stand those"reality" shows, but if I want to surf the net, I end up having to listen to them as we sit right next to each other!
