The reason for this post. I am juggling ram sticks between the 2 Dell T3400. Because one has ECC ram and this one is Non-ECC. I bumped the ram to 4 gigs on this unit but as can be seen from my readouts. The ram detection bottoms out at

Code: Select all

$ free
             total used free shared buffers cached
Mem:       3365580     638768    2726812       2472     123088     218804
-/+ buffers/cache:     296876    3068704
Swap:      4094972          0    4094972
Memory remapping is not a available option when checking in the bios.
The bios does see all 4 gig of ram though. As well as inxi shows all slots filled
with 4 , 1 GIG, ram sticks.

So just wondering if AntiX PAE 4.0 is enabled I checked.

Code: Select all

# egrep"HIGHMEM|X86_PAE" /boot/config-`uname -r`
# CONFIG_NOHIGHMEM is not set
CONFIG_HIGHMEM4G=y
CONFIG_HIGHMEM=y
# CONFIG_DEBUG_HIGHMEM is not set
I am kinda confused here so I try and include all the info I could into this thread with relevant commands for finding out what is happening with ram in AntiX. My video card can't be sucking up all of it I would think? As it has it's own memory of 256MB. I know that aint alot. But I work with what I got.

the 4 kernel is not PAE enabled. Its a 486 kernel. That said, you are getting more than I am. I'm only getting 2.4 GB of my 8 gb .

Thanks D.O. I was just wondering is all. I know it is early in AntiX 15 development.
I just needed to know if with my gear with more ram.
Since I show 3.2 gig .

Whether or not to install a PAE kernel or not. Trying to learn something new every day.

In my meagre experience, if you have more than 3Gb ram you want a PAE kernel.
(I only have one machine with 4Gb ram.)
