Hello there,

I am a new antiX user and still experiencing some issues.

1) the main issue: no proper Radeon support
My ATI card is a Radeon HD 4650. Videoplayback and OpenGL-free programs work decent. But as soon as I attempt to open a game or when I try to use OpenGL mode in mplayer , I find out that it is not properly supported.

Code: Select all

$ glxinfo
name of display: :0.0
Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual or fbconfig

################### PC INFORMATION - graphics #####################
#################### Press CTRL + C to exit ######################

Graphics: Card-1: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RS780 [Radeon HD 3200]
Card-2: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RV730 PRO [Radeon HD 4650]
           X.Org: 1.12.4 drivers: ati,radeon (unloaded: fbdev,vesa) Resolution: 1680x1050@60.0hz
GLX Renderer: N/A GLX Version: N/A
I tried both AntiX 13 beta1 and AntiX 12. With AntiX 12 I had also a resolution issue - even xres=1440x900 - did not help. So that is why I decided on installing the new beta instead.

I would prefer if there is a way to get it working with the default Radeon driver (not the proprietary AMD driver).

The issues below are less important for me to fix.

2) wondering: Is it possible to get IceWM working in AntiX 13 beta without much hassle.
I tried it via the metapackage-installer, but it complains that icewm-them is required, but not available.

3) Synaptic not starting
in the JVM menu there is the Synaptic entry, but when I click on it, it does not open. I found out that I can use apt-get install <package> as alternative.

And following is just report about a possible bug, I actually prefer jvm to fluxbox.
4) fluxbox applications in menu missing
I noticed that when I first started fluxbox there were several applications listed in the popup menu. But then below system configuration I changed locale settings; then it installed some locales and the apps in the menu disappeared.

Thanks for any help!
But apart from that, I quite like AntiX so far. I like it more than the other leightweigt distro Porteus I recently tried.

You can run the smxi script or the sgfxi script to install your video driver. Take a look at this and refer to the section"smxi"

On my motorcycle shop Desktop. I installed AntiX 11 base iso and i run a liqourix 2.6.38 kernel on it. I don't remember how I got mesa and open gl to work on it but I bet
I googled debian for the solution and installed everything via synaptic.

It runs the radeon open source driver I installed via smxi/sgfxi but I did this so long ago I can't remember my exact steps.
I mainly poke and hope, erase changes via mc in intit 3 boot if no screen shows after my changes.

I know that does not help you much.

Code: Select all

I installed the following and after next start I had it working with OpenGL.

Code: Select all

apt-get install glx-alternative-mesa libgl1-mesa-dri libgles2-mesa

Gonna give it a try. Because on my Acer Aspire 5534 laptop AntiX 13 (fresh install) I have a

Code: Select all

################### PC INFORMATION - graphics #####################
#################### Press CTRL + C to exit ######################

Graphics: Card: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RS780M/RS780MN [Mobility Radeon HD 3200 Graphics]

GLX Renderer: N/A GLX Version: N/A
Thanks for posting the solution. We will see after reboot what inxi -G spits out after install and reboot. I will edit post if successful.

Edit: I second the solution in this thread. Behold.

Code: Select all
