My favorite apps are Google Chrome, VLC and pcmanfm
Getting icons onto the desktop is easy, but how can I change the icons in the quick launch? I'd rather have them there than littering my desktop.
Of course the favorite apps are what I'd like to set as my defaults too.

The answer depends on which window manager you are using.
In IceWM, the contents of the toolbar at the bottom of the screen are controlled by the ~/.icewm/toolbar file. You may need to restart the window manager for the changes to take effect.
