Hi I am having problems using kaffeine, I know it is not one on the installed programs for mx-14
but is varry usfule if you have a pchdtv card. (only supported in linux)
the problem is that while mx-14 reads the ntsc chip (conexant systems CX23880)
it dosent see the astc chip (LG electronics LGDT3303 VSB?QAM fruntend)
so no device tab showes up in kaffeine and you cant set it up.
I ran w_scan after downloading it using the command w_scan -fa -A1 -cUS -k and it found the LG chip
and set up the channels but I am unshure how to get the file to work in kaffeine.
anny help would be greately appreciated

This is not an area where I have any experience, but maybe a question will get you started: what do you see if you pull the card, wait a bit, plug it back in, then open a terminal and enter

Code: Select all

dmesg | tail
I am wondering if firmware might be an issue.

Hi Jerry thanks for your sugjestion! I am currently using the pchdtv 5500 card in ubuntu 14.4 lts
With the growing popularaty of xbmc there are movies to watch in mx-14 via the high speed internet.
The pchdtv cards are nice for watching local over the air tv and able to save the programs to a file
you can watch and edit but with the drop in hardware prices a good 32" tv with pc/hdmi inputs isent
much more expensave.
I wil give your sugjestion a try and post the code for you.

Try posting a

Code: Select all

lspci -knn
also. It should show the TV card and hopefully the driver it uses.

Also. You ran inxi as root. So some readouts were left out.

Hi roknji I ran lspci -knw and was told that -w was not a valid option and a list of commands poped up in the terminal.
so I just typed lspci -k and got the following results.

sorry about the w I dont know how to type the proper command lspci -knn reports the same thing as lspci -k did.

I found what looks like a good treatment of your device:

Have you looked to see if the driver is being loaded? Looks like it is this:

Code: Select all

lsmod | grep cx88

Hi Jerry thanks for the url I ran lspci -vnn in ubuntu and antix mx-14 and it looks like the same drivers are being loaded in the kernal.
cx8800
cx88_audio
cx88-mpeg
has anyone used w_scan? I ran this program after downloading it and it was able to find the astc channels and save them to a file that can be read by kaffeine. but cant find any way to implament the file in kaffiene.

Hi everyone watching this post
I found a bunch of missing files in /home/.kde/share/apps/kaffeine and one empty config.dvb file.
so I copyed the config.dvb file I have in ubuntu into mx-14 and now the device page is there with the proper info and astc is in the box at the top of the channels page but all I get when running a channel serch is a message that no availabel device found.
next I found a url that gives the terminal inputs to wright w_scan channel info into the scanfile.dvb file in the above directory if run from that directory.

========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://l1br3n.blogspot.com/2011/05/kaffeine-dvb-t-full-scan-with-w-scan.html"
linktext was:"http://l1br3n.blogspot.com/2011/05/kaff ... -scan.html"
====================================

this neads the proper w_scan commands for us as the auther is using spain for his channel serch.
now all the missing files in /home/.kde/share/apps/kaffeine are there after running the comands in terminal found at the above url.
but the LG 3300 fruntend device is still missing.
