Hello:
I got a new laptop (Dell Inspiron 1721 with Vista) and wanted to try AntiX. So I tried the AntiX 7.5 LiveCD that had worked fine in my older laptop, but it does not run in this newer one.
After the Grub menu comes up and Default is selected, it just hangs there after a couple of lines. The screen is blank but if I press enter I get the following message:
PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 5 of device 0000:00:12.0
After about 10 minutes, the rest of AntiX does load up.
Oddly enough, Antix 8.0 test iso loads up fine.
Right now I'm considering whether to install 7.5 on this new laptop or just wait till 8 comes out.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks.
Pedro

Are you sure it's a good burn? I also get the"can't allocate" message at first boot. I just figured it couldn't find a device there but it does not affect anything else.
I have not tried v-8 yet so I can't comment but if it works for you go for it.

I've burned two copies already and have the same problem in both. This was not a problem when I loaded it on an older laptop so I think it's something with this newer laptop, not the disk.
I'm tempted to install 8.0 but I thought it was a test release. I'm afraid of spending time configuring the system with other applications I need to then have the"real" AntiX 8 appear and then I would have to reinstall everything. Or is there a smarter way to upgrade?
thanks.

Anti would say for sure but the 8 you have now will only be improved on. I doubt there will be any big shift.
