how can i set up a power and battery monitor on my emachine laptop....i installed anti 8.5 but no battery monitor.. thanks

There are a few ways. Conky is one that can be set up to show status, but the are several others. Search the forum, many have been discussed in the past.

I'm a fan of xfce4-power-manager. It provides a battery icon and some power profile management. xfce is not required, and the icon will show up in the notification area (system tray).

And I have posted conky.rc files on the forum also. Plus I used a green battery bar on Icewms toolbar by just using search in synaptic and picking a simple battery moniter from the choices available in my frugal antix2usb flash card.
