Hi.
I installed AntiX M8 to flash memory and use it with my eeePC(asus 701). It works fine, I like it, but I'd like to install icedove email through synaptic, and as I open terminal, and type:
"sudo synaptic", I'm asked the root password. I thought it would be"root", as with my former Simply MEPIS, but it was no good.
What is that root password?
Is there any other way to open synaptic, or is it installed at all?

Thank you for any help.

Sam.

Forget about sudo, this is not *buntu. To get synaptic either find it in the menu or call it from the terminal or run command by"gksu synaptic". The password will be the one set by you during the install.

I did not set any password... I used UNetbootin to install Antix M8 to Flash Drive.
But ok, I'll try to find synaptic as you told me. Thanks.

Sorry, I misunderstood what you did. Because of how it's installed the password is probably just"root" for root user and"demo" for normal user.

I thought it would be, but as I told, I didn't succeed(tried several times). Maybe there's no password for pen drive Antix.
Anyway, if somebody could find a working webcam for Antix, I'll SSD-install Antix for my eeePC. Then there has to be a password as you said. Meanwhile, I'm 'forced' to use eeebuntu, which is not a bad distro at all. ..so sad, I fell in love with Antix M8.

But I could use Synaptic to install icedove with your instructions!!! Thank you. ..the icedove was lost as I restarted, but that's other problem.

antiX doesn't have a persistant option ie to save any newly installed apps that will be saved for next boot as Puppy linux has.

However, claws-mail that comes with antiX is an excellent email client.

Ok, thank you for the information, which I found very helpful. Yes, I've tried many OSs according to my purposes, but Antix felt light enough in eeePC 701. I found Puppy's wlan option too hard for the reason below;

Is it really? Ok, but I'm familiar with Thunderbird on both different windowses(from 98.1 to XP) and many Linuxes, and Icedove seems alike. Maybe, if the other problems will be solved, I change my OS to antix, but my friend uses Icedove, and my experiments with claws-mail would just use too much time. You see, my wife gave a birth, and my time is deplorably limited.
