Hi. Any simple way to protect a usb flash-drive with password use? I suppose that I could ask about a password protected folder (or compressed file) in general, but I especially care about flash-drive protection, so I put the question this way. Even better if the solution is general, but it's not necessary. I only want it to be simple and safe. Thanks.

If your data is sensitive, probably better to encrypt it, rather than rely on a password which could be cracked fairly easily with a computer program.

Having said that, you have permissions on Linux file systems which adds a modicum of protection against casual cracking.

Thanks for reply. Unclicking read permissions at file or folder properties doesn't seem helpful in this case, because I need to access the data from various computers (all with antix OS). So, I suppose I need an encrypting tool that works with a password use. Isn't there such a tool, simple in use and safe enough against casual cracking?

Although this is for Ubuntu, it should work on any Linux - try it at your own risk.

antiX-17 will have an option in live-usb-maker to encrypt the usb device; you can run it live with persistence and remaster as well.
