I'm working on creating an antiX-based forensic live CD - analagous to System Rescue CD, DEFT, INSITE, Recovery is Possible, and others.
I don't like the existing live CDs. They tend to be rather user-unfriendly (no desktop environment and in some cases no GUI) or are bloatware (generally the Ubuntu-based distros). I want to bring the lightweight AND user-friendly base of antiX Linux to the forensic/rescue live CD world. Because the Debian repository is the biggest of the major base distros, I know that there is a greater selection of software in Debian-based distros than in those based on Gentoo, Slackware, etc. and a MUCH greater selection than in Puppy Linux.
Other than mulitimeida applications and games, what packages do you recommend that I cut from the full version of antiX Linux? I'd like to cut non-essential applications out in order to make room for others.
I know that there is a base version of antiX Linux. I've played around with it, but I was unable to give it the same user-friendly desktop/interface that the full version with IceWM and Rox has. That said, I am aware that there are many packages included in the full version of antiX Linux but not the base version.
Any suggestions?

Abiword, Osmo, Phonebook, Printing, Trim network connection tools (I would ditch rutilt)
I though was able to install and run XFCE and LXDE Desktops on my base installs though. So don't know what you mean by

But hey. This is your project. You go with it as you see fit. Good luck with it. Happy Trails, Rokknow that there is a base version of antiX Linux. I've played around with it, but I was unable to give it the same user-friendly desktop/interface that the full version with IceWM and Rox has.
