I'm using pcmanfm 1.2.0 in Lubuntu 14.04. When I open a folder it opens in the existing folder and not a new window. Is there any way to solve this? I can't seem to find a preference that will allow me to do this. When I searched on the internet I read that I have to recompile pcmanfm? Sounds like overkill for something so simple.

Sorry Bro. SpaceFM dude here.
Add own options to the files context menu
The file managers such as PCManFM support the Desktop file specification extension (DES-EMA) designed specifically for the purpose to extend menus of file managers. Create own desktop entry file with required actions and you will have them added to the context menu instantly. You can do it either manually using any text editor (files should be placed into the directory ~/.local/share/file-manager/actions) or using dedicated application such as nautilus-actions-config-tool.

Maybe I should try spacefm. Not sure if it is lighter than pcmanfm and stable as well.

the one thing about spacefm is that its crazy configurable. Up to 4 panes, custom menu entries, all kinds of cool stuff if you get into it. it was originally forked from pcmanfm, but I think the code diverged greatly a long time ago to the point where its barely related.
since you've already got the gvfs stuff going in lubuntu, you might try thunar instead. It will bring in some xfce stuff, but not really a whole lot, and your trashcan will still work. you need a plugin for trash in spacefm (I've got some videos on the subject).
spacefm is pretty stable. I'm not sure about lighter. It depends on how you count. we use it in antiX, and its nice because it doesn't require the gvfs virtual filesystem stuff. But all that is already installed in lubuntu for pcmanfm to use.rmcellig wrote:Maybe I should try spacefm. Not sure if it is lighter than pcmanfm and stable as well.

Thanks for the info! If I want to make spacefm my default file manager do I just have to change this part of my /home/randy/.config/lxsession/Lubuntu/desktop.conf file and then just re login to my lubuntu session?
Code: Select all
file_manager/command=spacefm
file_manager/session=spacefm

I'm going to try the latest antix again and see how that goes. I'm also delving into Tiling managers as well. Pretty fun but a bit off topic for this thread __{{emoticon}}__
