If you have a very old box, by today's standard ie PII 200 ish and 128MB RAM or less, could you carry out a couple of tests.
For an installed antiX (any M7 version, though the most recent would be best) set mem=32MB or mem=64MB RAM in grub/menu and post the results ie boot times, response with apps, general feeling if it is usable or not, etc.
Also add the cheatcodes lean and Xtralean to see if there are any improvements.
TIA

Maybe try the open source version of flash called gnash, available in the repos.

I assume you're using the default Iceweasel (?). I had problems with flash using that, as well. No such problem in Firefox 3 or with Opera 9.5. You might want to try one of those and see if that eliminates the problem. Just a thought.

On my Sony 333 MHz celeron (64 MB Ram) antix 7.2 is quite slow:
From grub to slim login: 95 seconds (with cheatcode lean: 92 seconds, withxtralean about 87 seconds)
from slim to fluxbox: 4 seconds
iceweasel: 37 seconds
antix seams to be a bit slower than debian 4.0 stable (icewm)
No comparison to slitaz (slitaz-lowram) and damn small linux; both are very responsive
Installation wasn't hazzle free: my pcmcia cd-drive was not recognized. That's why I copied the content of the cd to hda2 (ext3). Installation stopped suddenly (the window simply closed), when I set my 170 MB swap manually. I enlarged my swap to 500 MB and selected"no swap or known swap": then the installation took 1h20.

Something is really wrong. Did you check the md5 sum of the download?

On my 'new' old box.
PIII 733
RAM 256 MB
Install from livecd took about 20 mins.
Installed, default
grub to desktop with no cheats, about 1 minute.
grub to desktop with reduced services, about 45 secs.
Abiword opens in a few secs, iceweasel in about 10 secs to fully show the webpage.
The same box, but with RAM set to 64MB:
grub to desktop with no cheats, just over 1 minute.
grub to desktop with reduced services, about 50 secs.
abiword takes a bit longer, ie max 7 secs
iceweasel, max 15 secs
