Is there some approved way to install the proprietary Nvidia driver in Luddite Stable with current kernel?
I mean apart from running the installer from Nvidias site?

Which Kernel exactly?with current kernel
SeeFor those using antiX-13 series with the 3.7.10 kernel, you should update to the latest in the antiX stable repositories. The updated kernel fixes the bug of building applications that need to be built with Wheezy's libs and gcc.
Without going into detail, if you want to run antiX-13 series fixed to the Wheezy repository and want to install for example Virtualbox and nvidia drivers, you MUST install the latest 3.7.10.antix.7 kernel for your architecture for each application to build.

You didnt say what you have so nobody can give you an easy answer. Run the next line from a terminal session and post the results. That should help...
inxi -Fxz
The proprietary driver might be in the repos depending on what video card you have and which driver it needs and whether that driver is supported for the kernel you are running now.coyotito wrote:Is there some approved way to install the proprietary Nvidia driver in Luddite Stable with current kernel?

Yes, but with the Kernel that comes on the Luddite 13.2 disk, smxi just simply screws up and complains about missing libs and gcc, as I found out the hard way. You have to install 13.2, then update the kernel, then run smxi to install the proprietry drivers, in that order.
Any other way and you end up pulling out your hair and swearing a lot.

You need the 340.xx drivers for that card. I don't have a machine up with 13.2 at the moment, but I'm thinking those packages that include the proprietary driver for that card are in the repos and all you need to do is install them and then go to single user and run nvidia-xconfig, and then reboot.
When you do that in synaptic, you are switching the kernel as suggested above.

Thanx. And btw antiX 13 stable must be one of the best desktops out there, lightweight or no. will prob run this a year or so as oldstable.
Have upgraded so kernel must be the last one (

okay so smxi -or just install 304.xxx driver.. Awesome forum too.
I value this ultrastable desktop so maybe think through if I need the proprietary driver.
