Hi,
Audio working fine with M8.5, but lost when clean install of M11pt1.
Laptop Sony PCG-F400 with (info from Alsamixer panel AFTER fix) :
card : Yamaha DS-1S (YMF744) chip : Asahi Kasei AK4543
I found /lib/firmware/yamaha was missing, so I copied folder from live M8.5 to installed M11.
( I diff'd M8.5 and M11 dmesg, which showed firmware requesting yamaha/dsle_ctrl.fw )
All working again now, but wonder what is the CORRECT method to fix this. Not sure where"firmware" repositories are. Tried searching in Synaptic, but couldn't see anything.
I'm guessing space is limited on full cd iso, so some things have to be left out in any new release.
Trom
PS. Is there an M11 forum I should post to ?

Edit: After searching your soundcard through google. Using Debian in the search. All threads I found were outdated and links were no good any more. A mention was made about using the Sidux online manual. But that does not seem to exist anymore. I would be glad that I have sound working by pulling the firmware off like you did. At least you have sound now. So congrats on being intuitive enough to find a work around. That seems the proper way for me. If it fixes it and works. Than you gotter done. __{{emoticon}}__
