Hi,
didn't touch Linux for many years...
Installed Antix on T42 Thinkpad (my wife like this computer). It was bleeding on XP even with 1GB of RAM.
So found info about Antix. And I am really surprised. It's flying. Basically, she needs Internet and Skype on it.
All hardware is well detected wifi, cam... Cannot figure out how to make work sound.
In Skype Audio devices I cannot choose Intel audio, or cams mike. Everything in Skype's audio shows VIRTUAL. Where I can find the association of hardware with this virtual?
In Alsa mixer everything looks OK.
Again the sound works from other apps - youtube, cd, etc. NO SKYPE sound.
I did some checks on web for Antix. My gui is slightly limited when compare to web examples. Even desktop toolbar is vertical and no way to move it horizontal. In right click- properties no option for horizontal..
What I am missing? Please help. Don't want to put this comp in the garbage __{{emoticon}}__ . It's really has new life now.
So it is a click somewhere that I am just not able to find....
Thx.

Welcome aboard.
Lots of people are using a computer/laptop like yours with Linux or BSD, it's not the machine, as you found out, but the bloat of Microsoft that is making them so slow.
Regarding Skype, I'm afraid I have no idea, as I don't use it, but someone will hopefully be along shortly to help.
EDIT: This link may be your answer :-

The reports I'm seeing around the various message boards is that the latest skype (4.3) now only works if you use pulseaudio, which is not included in antiX by default, but which is relatively simple to install.

You got that right. For some reason, almost everyone using the newest version of Skype is having headaches (according to the forum boards.) Once you install pulseaudio, it works. I guess the people at skype want you to use ONLY what they want you to use. Hey, kind sounds like people we know."You can only use what we want you to use, It's for your benefit." __{{emoticon}}__dolphin_oracle wrote:The reports I'm seeing around the various message boards is that the latest skype (4.3) now only works if you use pulseaudio, which is not included in antiX by default, but which is relatively simple to install.

well, they are owned by microsoft now. I guess we should be considered lucky that it still runs on non-ms platforms at all.
