I'm setting up my new system T23 + 1G Ram __{{emoticon}}__ and everything worked fine (including sound).
Then I installed some additional software, using the following packages
and afterwards any sound became silent...

I checked the settings in alsamixer and volumes on xmms and gnomeplayer. They were all fine.
doing sound test in antix ControlCenter was stille silent.
speaker-test -> silent.
I reinstalled alsa:

use the sound card utility in the control center to make sure the correct sound card is set as default. I've seen some win modems take over the default sound position in the past.

Hello Dolphin!
thanks for your reply. Yes, I did what you proposed, (there is only one sound card installed,#
Intel Corporation 82801CA/CAM AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 02) (see lspci).
toggeling between 82801 and default hat no success.
To make a long story short:
Since the system was quite fresh installed, I decided to just erase everything and made a new
complete installation.
Then i added the required additional packages and protokolled manually every step i did.
This time I could connect to the LabJack-box, plus having a working alsa-sound.
Result: *everything* works fine now.
I could not prove it but, i believe that the also crash happened somewhere around
the exodriver-installation. In the past did not logout (as i was asked to do __{{emoticon}}__ )
so that i was not in the adm-group.
The difference to past installations, that ended with a broken audio was,
that this time i did many more log-out/reboots () than ever bevor...
Thanks again for your support.
