hello and welcome to antiX,
please post the output of inxi -F so we can see your system specs, and you could try wicd to connect to the wired connection. also have a look at this:

wicd ? what is that?
Wired:
antiX Control Center--> Network--> Network interfaces (ceni)--> click on ethernet--> accept
You should now be connected.
Note: If you have the BCM 4401-B0 ethernet you will need to comment out these lines: in /etc/modprobe.d/b43.conf as root.
ssb true b44 true
then: modprobe ssb && modprobe b44
then restart ceni.
Doesn't work.
I don't have this file:
/etc/modprobe.d/b43.conf

try this, open a terminal and type :
enter your root password. then enter:
if you don't get any errors the module is loaded. use:
this to see if the driver and card is loaded. then
or what name you have for the network adapter and try ceni again. if it works you need to add the driver to the boot of the system. edit by opening run and type:
and add hit enter after you add the name of the module and then save the file.
i hope it works, also wicd is a wired and wireless manager that is included in antix and you can find it in the control center under network.
Code: Select all
su
Code: Select all
modprobe sky2
Code: Select all
ifconfig -a
Code: Select all
ifup eth0
Code: Select all
gksu leafpad /etc/modules
Code: Select all

Rita,
Looking at your specs:
You have a beta version with an older kernel, might be better to dl the newest version here:

linktext was:"http://www.mepisimo.com/antix/Testing/"

and get this version and md5sum
antiX-M11-pt2-686.iso
then see if your wired works.
If that does not resolve the problem, then we can look at installing a liquorix kernel.
cheers,
ohh

Marvel chip-sets are a bane with Linux because they won't release source-code of their drivers to Linux developers.
Which is why you are struggling with eth0 is my guess. Support for sky2 module may be found in manually downloading stevos kernel on a working computer. to usb. Then transfer kernel tar to antix to lets say /home. Then unzip/untar stevo kernel tar. The open terminal in /home and run dpkg -i as root user in terminal to install 2.6.34-stevo. Use the Tab key for auto-completion.
You might see some erros about libqt-m. Just ignore it. When done with dpkg -i for header and image debs. Run the command as root in terminal also when done with kernel install.
Then reboot into 2.6.34-stevo kernel and try Ice-m post recommends for sky2 driver I guess. Best I can think of doing to update kernel.

If, this kernel upgrade gives the driver for eth0. You can fix error by hooking up to the net. Open synaptic package package manager. It should open telling you about searching filter for the error.
What I did to fix error was go to Edit>Fix Broken Packages. Then Hit Apply. You will be needed to be connected though to fix this. That was why I said ignore error. Because you have no net connection so trying to fix it would not work any ways. Hope I am clear about this.
If No eth0 with this. You can uninstall the kernel in synaptic. Just do a search for 2.6.34. Pick mark for complete removal. When asked if you wish to abort removal. Untick, checked, check box that says abort. It will proceed to remove 2.6.34-stevo.
Good luck.
To elaborate on why I said this. The kernel should boot. I tested this today on my Laptop and booted this kernel even though it gave a error about libqt. You might see some erros about libqt-m. Just ignore it.
