Hmmm...I thought the code tags were supposed to condense the viewing area between the tags; evidently not. __{{emoticon}}__

The following did not work:

echo"options asus_nb_wmi wapf=4" | sudo tee [backslash]etc[backslash]modprobe.d[backslash]asus_nb_wmi.conf

Now I'm off to take a shower, grab something to eat, and then do some more research to try to find a solution to this madness. __{{emoticon}}__

According to

your wireless card, listed as:

Code: Select all

02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Device 08b1 (rev 6b)
is only supported in kernels 3.11 and higher. The kernel in antiX-13.2 is version 3.7.10. You can get a kernel that should work with your wireless card with MX-14.3 or with some of the later versions of antiX-14 such as antiX-14-alpha4 or antiX-14-alpha-5.

there is a 3.11 kernel available in the antiX repos. you might try that one first before heading to mx land or to the testing repos (where the 14/15 alpha lives)

We'll need to get the network dongle to work first before he can download the newer kernel to fix the wireless. I don't see anything useful in the lsusb output. Maybe it wasn't plugged in.

^That! I've plugged in the USB ethernet adapter many times. None of the indicator lights light up and nothing happens.

I'm using a j5create JUE130 USB ethernet adapter and the packaging states that it should work with kernels 2.6x or 3.x.

Ah! I just checked their web site. The adapter allows you to add networking capabilities to a computer without them through a Wi-Fi connection.

Okay...back to trying to get the WiFi working. __{{emoticon}}__ Is there a way to download a kernel as an installable package from the antiX repos?

That's old. The Debian Backports repo currently has 3.16 which I'm running on my new ASUS AIO under CrunchBang Linux.

I tried following the A quick hack suggestion at

. However, when I bring up Synaptic on my ASUS Zenbook, Synaptic will not allow me to use the DEB packages I retrieved from antiX in a VMware VM. In fact, if I go to [/]var[/]cache[/]apt[/]archives, I cannot select any files there either. I wonder if I could just install the kernel header and image (3.11) debs using gdebi? I'm going to try it and see what happens.

I was able to install the kernel image and header for 3.11 using gdebi. However, that did not resolve the issue. I still cannot connect to the internet and I do not see any networks when I bring up wicd. The F2 key light is still on, which tells me that airplane mode is still on/engaged. I'm going to try sending an email to ASUS tech support and see if they have any advice. They'll probably say something like,"We're sorry, we do not offer support for Linux on that device." __{{emoticon}}__

I've been up all night trying to resolve this.

With wicd you have to assign wlan0, (but I expect you know that).
To install pre downloaded packages, I always use dpkg -i, hope that helps a bit. __{{emoticon}}__

Edit: Some people use liquorix kernels, maybe one of those might work.

I'm a network-manager fan, so I'm not that familiar with wicd. I'll double check the settings, although there's still the issue of the airplane mode being on. As soon as I get connectivity, I'll be installing network-manager and purging both wicd and ceni. __{{emoticon}}__

Come to think of it, I remember looking at the settings in wicd and there was no reference at all to a wireless adapter, only an ethernet adapter. I'll try the wlan0 setting and see what happens.

I prefer gdebi for downloaded packages. It handles dependencies a little bit better or more gracefully than dpkg.

I've heard of the liquorix kernels, but have never used them. I'm thinking of using the kernel from the Debian Backports repo (currently 3.16) or maybe a kernel from Siduction. According to the Arch Wiki for the ASUS Zenbook UX303, most of the function keys work on kernel 3.17 and greater.

Partial success...I plugged in the USB ethernet adapter and the ethernet cable and got a flicker from one of the indicator lights, but no internet connection. I went into wicd and the setting for ethernet showed eth1 , so I changed it to eth0, the indicator lights on the adapter began to flicker, and internet connection. Woo hoo!

I've upgraded the kernel to 3.16 from the Debian Backports repo, but that hasn't resolved the wireless issue. The airplane mode indicator is still lit up. I've sent a tech support request to ASUS about the issue.
