Good Day:

I am new to Antix using antiX-M8-Test
IBM T20 pentium III
It uses a crystal sound fusion on board soud card that requires the CS46xx module. This module was removed by the Debian
developers due to possible patent problems.

I have never attempted to compile anything before, and the more I read about compileing the more confused I am becoming. Will someone please take the time to take me by the hand and explain the process of compileing this module so I may understand how it is done properly for Antix-M8 ?
I have looked at the ALSA information on compileing this module, but I don't know if that is the proper way for Antix.

Thank you for helping to teach me, as well as others how to do this.

Thank you so much for this information. I was so excited to return to the great antiX only to find no sound. Followed the linked instructions and it worked great! Thank you so much anticapitalista and anyone else involved.

I was running 7 on my T21 and was psyched to give 8 a try. So far so great.

After a reboot the sound no longer works, but the cs46xx module appears to be loaded (via lsmod) and a second modprobe doesn't help - using alsaconf to configure alsa and it found the cs46xx card and driver, but still no sound.

Any ideas? I will continue to tinker ... (thanks)

tinker ... tinker ... tinker oh hey! I think I found out the issue. the Master Volume defaults to 0 for some reason. Easily fixed with aumix (or alsaconfig I would assume) PHEW!
