Hello
A new Antix user here. I have been happily using Mepis for about the past 2 years and like it very much. I have also experimented with Ubuntu, Zenwalk, Debian, Linux Mint, Knoppix, DSL, and Puppy Linux. I have always come back to Mepis as it just seems to be the best overall that I have used. With a recent hard drive failure on our primary PC, I dug an old unused desktop out of the closet to use for the time being. It is about 11 years old, HP with 500 MHz Celeron, 256 RAM, and 10 gig hard drive. After reading about Antix I thought it might be a nice fit for this computer (at least until I get a replacement hard drive for the other PC). I'm not a Linux expert by any means but I felt pretty comfortable getting things done in Mepis. I like this Antix so far but it is enough different that I am having to learn some new things again. I've read over the forums some but any advice for a brand new user is appreciated. Everything looks very nice. A major speed killer for me seems to be Iceweasel. I have tried Dillo and wasn't immediately impressed so I installed Midori. It seems much better. Very nice distro so far.

I recommend for you trying antiXM-8.5-base from the link in this post:
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"antix.freeforu ms.org/antix-m8-5-full-test1-and-antix-m8-5-base-test1-available-t2046.html"
linktext was:"antix.freeforu ms.org/antix-m8-5- ... t2046.html"
====================================
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false
It comes with a script called exoodles which offers some browser options like Chrome and Opera.
While me too was thinking of trying Midori, I think the new version isn't available on Debian repos (could maybe on the MEPIS community one, but I didn't check).

Howdy and Welcome.
I just run the AntiX8.2 version for now.
I use Opera 10.1 using the deb pkg from their site for Debian. Have fun with Antix.

Use the select distribution and vendor box and select debian lenny. I know they have a Mepis in the selection. But debian is what I used.
After download just open terminal and run
dpkg -i (downloaded opera pkg name)
I also posted on how I installed IceCat 3.5 in AntiX 8.2
