) I already knew what to expect from windoze 8.1, so setting it up with her old programs was nothing. She even has gotten used to the"secure" login procedure (which I showed her how to bypass.)
I got her old MSI S6000 to play with. After my JUNKBOX, it runs like a Mustang GT500. (I've gone from a P III 996 Mhz to an i5-450M 2.6 Ghz.) Once I've finished copying her 250 Gb of pictures to dvd's, I'm installing antiX and MX-14. Now what the hell to do with a 500 Gb hard drive???? I could make 20 different partitions. This is going to take some serious thinking to figure this out as to what to do with all this space.

I could, go crazy and start copying movies to the hdd, or install, games like crazy to fill the space, but that's just not my thing. __{{emoticon}}__

Congrats bro. I did almost the same thing with a Dell E4310 ($200).
Bought and gave to wife.
Sold my Bike tuner Acer 5534 for $200.
I ended up with her Compaq CQ 57 (I am going to look for a SSD for it.)
Also ended up with her Acer Aspire AST180 Desktop Tower.
I am single this week as she is in Mississippi visiting family.
So computing is not big on my list this week as things to do.
Being outside and cruising on my scooter is the priority this week.
Just dropping by to do mod duties. __{{emoticon}}__
Congrats on the I5 lappy. I bet is is a screamer.
Good luck with it.

I decided to keep 100 Gb for windoze (you never can tell when it may be handy), and set up the rest with 10 Gb linux partitions PLUS 2 Gb linux-swap. PLUS I have a 320 Gb usb drive for videos. I'm happy! And so is the wife.
Now I'm waiting for the replacement fan and new gpu for this laptop. That all should be in by Tuesday of next week.

I couldn't believe that it took me 32 minutes total to insert the antiX 13.2 disk, reboot, install and set-up antiX, remove the disk, reboot, enter antiX, and get to here. Either I'm getting faster or its a flashback. __{{emoticon}}__ Where did the 60s go?
Seriously, this laptop moves. __{{emoticon}}__
