It's CRAZY !
I restart the computer => I see the list of network. I try to connect to my LIVEBOX with the good KEY (WAP) => surch but not connect ! ! No error message.
If I actualise => no more list, it's empty and no connexion any more.

I go to sleep !
I will come back tomorrow.

I have installed ANTIX on my HD !
Very fast, pretty look... but no wifi ! GRRRRRRRRR !

Hmmm. I got a Doctor appointment tomorrow. So maybe some other member will jump in here.

dmesg | grep firmware
in case firmware for your wireless chip is missing causing problems. If it returns nothing. Then nothing is missing.

He is running a wireless usb there Shay. Not a internal wireless pci card.
My Wifi is a USB plug EVO-W311USB.

so lspci won't really apply in this thread < I think? >. ifconfig -a also has been posted and wlan0 is shown as a working wireless signal.

So I am kinda mystified on why he says it works. Then says quit working.
Maybe a bad usb port or something?
Hence my dmesg questions looking for wlan0 errors or missing firmware messages.
Might try that wireless usb in a different usb slot before power up and boot up also.

Wireless USB, could also, while it is shut down insert and unplug it 3 or 4 times as it tends to clean the contacts roky. Had to do that many a time.
Sure missed the USB part. Guilty.

Hello,
Thank you everybody to look at my problem !

It is different today ! !
I start the laptop and I see I am connected to my LIVEBOX.
OK !
But whithout wired connexion, impossible to have a website on Firefox !

In the botton right of the screen =>

ESSID Livebox XXX
link quality :63%
signal level : -47 dBm
Noise level : -256 dBm
Tx rate : 65 mbps

The connexion worked good with Windows at home and in the restaurants ...

=> I unplug the USB Tool and re plug it => I can connect in Wicd immediately, but no internet website possible
(sorry for my poor english !)

With ETHERNET +> no problem

IMPORTANT : the distance between Livebox and Laptop = 1 meter

On My Android Phone => wifi OK, Websites OK

It's Works ! ! ! !
I have restarted the laptop
WIFI OK => Websites OK

I do not understand anything !

I go to restart another time.... It still works very well I am very happy !

Old laptops can be like that. I had one netbook you had to hand slap on the back to unbind the hard drive platter so it would spin after sitting still for over a few days. Another one. I had to slap the screen edge on the lcd to get a viewable screen.

With Windows XP (or seven) it worked well, never a problem.

Wifi at Home => OK
Wifi outside in bar => not connecting !
