Testers needed for latest 3.2.2 antiX kernel.
Just like the last antiX kernel, could those with PI or K5/k6 AMD test to see if it boots.

Ignore 'errors' about symbolic link. They are just non-fatal warnings.

Comments welcome.

Edit: I guess update-grub changed all my root entries for all kernels to

Code: Select all

root (hd1,0)
So I had to change all of grubs entries back to (hd0,0). Might not be a kernel issue on this rig maybe. Deleted some older kernels to free up some space on SSD drive. Survived reboot after manually editing my /boot/grub/menu.lst also.

That is a grub issue, roky.

Let us know how the new kernel performs with long term use. re mem use etc.

I've used it all day without issue and ram/cpu use is very low.

Ok Anti. I moved on and installed new kernel on my IBM A22M Laptop , Pentium 3, 512MB ram, AntiX 11 Full iso, separate / and /home partitions.

Code: Select all

# fdisk -l

Disk /dev/sda: 20.0 GB, 20003880960 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 2432 cylinders, total 39070080 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0xf048567a

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 2048 13414274 6706113+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda2 37592100 39070079 738990 82 Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sda4 13414275 37592099 12088912+ 83 Linux
I usually have trouble installing liqourix kernels with a invalid ext2 file system error on booting with seperate / and /home partitions like I have on my IBM T23 laptop and my EEEPC 900 with / on 4 gig solid state drive and /home on 16 gig separate secondary solid state drive.
That is why I run a Stevo kernel on the IBM T23 and just use the stock AntiX 2.6.36 mepis kernel on the EEEPC 900.

So I was pleasantly surprised when I had a successful boot on this older IBM A22M with the separate / and /home partitions with the newer Kernel: 3.2.2-antix-486-smp i686 (32 bit)

Code: Select all

But. I have no sound in the new kernel while sound is OK in the older stock AntiX 11 2.6.36 kernel. To show the difference here is what alsa is showing in inxi between the 2 kernels.

Code: Select all

Kernel: 2.6.36-1-mepis-smp i686 (32 bit)

Audio: Card: Cirrus Logic CS 4614/22/24/30 [CrystalClear SoundFusion Audio Accelerator]
driver: Sound Fusion CS46xx

Kernel: 3.2.2-antix-486-smp i686 (32 bit)

Audio: Card: Cirrus Logic CS 4614/22/24/30 [CrystalClear SoundFusion Audio Accelerator]
driver: ThinkPad EC

And for modprobe

Code: Select all

root@Biker:/home/harry# modprobe cs46xx
FATAL: Module cs46xx not found.
root@Biker:/home/harry# modprobe -r snd-cs46xx ; modprobe snd-cs46xx
FATAL: Module snd_cs46xx not found.
FATAL: Module snd_cs46xx not found.
So I guess the cs46xx module got left out in this 3.2 kernel build. I tried the wget

Code: Select all

But I guess the header in kernel 3.2 is too new for this method to work for me. Just a bikers guess though.
Read error (The request is invalid.) in headers
Otherwise. Booted OK. Wireless card is OK. Just no music (you know me and music __{{emoticon}}__ )

I tried typing alsamixer in terminal to double check and see if I got lucky. But alsamixer not found in 3.2 kernel.

Was worth a shot though. __{{emoticon}}__

Side note. I installed the new Kernel in the Emachine wireless motorcycle shop Desktop computer. I left it at waiting for /dev to populate....... in boot up. That is where it hung up again. Gave it plenty of time as I was trying this fix first so I figure I gave it over 15 minutes. Never got past waiting for /dev to populate....... in all that time. I guess my Emachine is a picky bugger at best. Remember I had the same troubles with the other testing kernel also on that Desktop. So I will be uninstalling 3.2 on it next. Done testing for now.

Happy Trails, Rok
