Im seriously thinking of moving the forum to here:
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://antix.phpbb3now.com/"
linktext was:"http://antix.phpbb3now.com/"
====================================
The ads here are getting on my nerves, and there have been some other problems with timeouts etc.
Problem is that everyone will have to re-register to the new forum, unless thare is some great genius out there that knows otherwise and how to transfer all the info on this forum to the new one quickly and efficiently.

it not a good idea to move to another forum without the topics. sorry i don't know phpbb but maybe this will help:
how to move phpbb 2 to a new server:
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article/how-to-move-a-phpbb-20x-board-to-a-new-server/"
linktext was:"http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article/how-to- ... ew-server/"
====================================
and this is about moving from phpbb 2 to phpbb 3 on another server:
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=1138765"
linktext was:"http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... &t=1138765"
====================================
this one is how to convert phpbb 2 to phpbb 3:
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://www.phpbb.com/community/docs/INSTALL.html#convert"
linktext was:"http://www.phpbb.com/community/docs/INS ... ml#convert"

I agree, the ads are out of hand but there is a lot of valuable information on these forums.

I use adblock on Iceweasel and never see the ads. Try that before deciding. You can get it at the Firefox add on site. __{{emoticon}}__

Thanks Rebel for the suggestion, but the hosts here stated that it would be ad-free, then controlled ads, now it is annoying me.
There is a lot of information here and I don't want it lost.
Maybe I could transfer the info over bit-by-bit and when it is ready,change to the new-forum?
Ideas?

I guess if you or a group moved the information that is worth moving to the new forum it really wouldn't be a big deal. All we would have to do is sign up at those forums. The only reason I didn't think it was the best idea is because of the tons of valuable information here. There's probably pretty much information to move though! It's your decision but I will follow no matter what. I love antiX and the people who are on this forum are outstanding.anticapitalista wrote:Thanks Rebel for the suggestion, but the hosts here stated that it would be ad-free, then controlled ads, now it is annoying me.

If you get admin control panel access, phpbb allows you to export the forum database, I suggest you do this immediately, and keep doing daily if you can.
however, forget about any 'free' forum hosting, hosting forums costs money, it's a generally bad idea, they have to put ads on to pay their bills. Forums are server intensive to run, I wouldn't personally dream of using any 'free' option, since I know what it costs long term to get that 'free' price.

Is it just me or is there something up with the forums? It flags the new messages from my last visit, but if I choose to view the new posts, it tells me that there aren't any. So I have to find them all manually. Bummer.

I think the new one loads faster?
Or it might be because of the low number of post.
But the ads give me something to read?
The ads didn't bug me--not like a hour long of ads on T.V.

I too am using AdBlock Plus in IceWeasel and all their suggested filters, as well as the their Element Hiding Helper. I've never seen one ad on this site...banner, flash or popup. If you hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't have known they were a problem. __{{emoticon}}__
I'll have to do a little more investigating re: the time of my last visit vs. the timestamp of all the new posts.

I'm getting a similar behavior. If I click on 'view new posts', it will show me a few new unread posts, but if I look at the main page, there are definitely more new posts than what I see when clicking the 'new posts' link.OU812 wrote:Is it just me or is there something up with the forums?
