Hi
Just gave antix a try and I am impressed. My hobby is to get old equipment and make it usable again and this time I found a gem. A Toshiba Satellite 4015CDT laptop with a PII 266 processor and 140M+ of ram. I usually use Vector Linux for this type of project but the live antix CD ran surprisingly smooth on the machine and I would like to give it a try.
My problem is that it has a Xircom PCMIA NIC/modem combo card. Antix recognizes it and can give me a MAC address etc etc but I can't get an address from my router's DNS service. I've tried ifconfig, variations of dhclient, antix's"GUI" but nothing works.
The card works under Vector so I know it works. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

It sounsds nuts, but there is a debian bug that may never have been fixed. Here's an old thread on the issue.
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=65675"
linktext was:"http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=65675"
====================================
the end result was to try ejecting and re-inserting the card with the machine still running.

Thanks, gave it a try but that isn't it. Their system didn't recognize the card and mine does.
I tried to reconfig some of the dhclient files which wasn't easy. It is a literal maze of files, directories, soft links, system generated files, hook files to keep the system from changing files, etc. and couldn't get it work.

By antiX GUI do you mean wicd?
If so did the interface show up and cannot connect or did no interfaces show up? You may need to add the interface (eth* wlan* whatever it shows as) under the preferances in wicd.
Also have you tried ceni (it is a cli application)? It should show the interface automatically in which case pressing enter on the interface should start a connection.
If it does not, perhaps you could copy the system information to a text file and copy that to a usb so you can post the text file from a working machine. Another option is to boot the working os, mount the hard drive with the text file and post it here.
What we would be looking for is:
1. inxi -F
2. lspci -k |grep -i"Xircom"
3. lsmod

Hi
No, didn't use wicd, I used ceni. Ceni looks like it runs dhclient and will add the appropriate flags for you if you want.
Here is my output:
Thanks in advance.

Just to humor us. Post output of
In case firmware is missing on that Xircom. I ignore the errors above on this IBM T23 Laptop.
Plus, since I am lightheaded and under the weather. Maybe cover all bases with
Hopefully the other members can use that info also to make things go smoother on fixing your issue.
Out for the count, cough, cough, Rok
