Hi,

I've installed RC4 on an old Dell laptop with a 1GHz Pentium M, and 512MB RAM. It runs really well, but I'm unable to browse my local workgroup using pyNeighborhood.

I can see the workgroup, the machine I want to connect to, and the shared folders. Clicking, double-clicking, or right-clicking on those shares shows nothing however. I've changed the filemanager path in preferences to /usr/bin/thunar (from the default of /usr/bin/nautilus, to no avail. A pyNeighborhood folder is created in home, but remains empty.

I've installed Nautilus together with all the things it wanted to bring in. Clicking the Network icon in Nautilus lets me get to the files I want perfectly, but changes the wallpaper to the Debian default one until a reboot.

I have used pyNeighborhood in other distros with some success, although it's not my favourite utility, but I'm stumped here.

Any ideas anyone please?

Not that nautilus is installed, does pyneighborhood now work?

There is also gigolo and smbc (samba commander)

No, pyNeighborhood does nothing but tease me with an icon for the shares that appears to do nothing. I can only access those shares from within Nautilus.

Have you tried the other 2 apps I mentioned? They are installed.

SMBC works fine, although it's not the most intuitive thing I've ever used! The developer's website 404's; it looks as if it's possibly been abandoned?

In Gigolo I can create a folder with the correct server and share name. When I click that folder, I get an error message"The command 'gvfs-open"smb://server_name/share_name" failed."

I'm most probably failing to use it properly, but I'm happy enough to use SMBC. It would be nice to have a GUI-based network share browser working for final release though.

Thanks for your help with this anti,

If anyone has ideas on getting pyneighborhood working for final, let me know asap. I don't use network share browsing.

pyneighborhood is working fine for me, but its a little weird. It does not browse the shares itself, rather it fines the shares and allows you to mount them. The little button with the"two computers" icon, when pressed with a selected share, will bring up a dialog to set up a mount point. After that, you can browse with any file browser or even the command line. You can also use pyneighborhood to unmount.

I prefer to use smbnetfs to browse my network. It has never failed me. It works well with pcmanFM, Thunar, and Rox-Filer.
Check out this link on the Mepis site:

That button is greyed out, even when I select a network share that I can access with SMBC.
