I have an ancient (was running Windoze 2000) computer. Wanted to try AntiX to perk things up. I am giving over the whole machine to Linux, so that is not a problem. When I try to run the live CD, when it is just about ready to bring up the window manager, the screen goes to"sleep" and I can't wake it up again! I am sure it has to do with the ACPI (a message comes on that says since this is a pre-1999 BIOS it is going into forced mode), but I don't know how I can get things running so I can even see AntiX!
I have tried both the 8.5 and 8.2 versions. Any help would be most appreciated!

In the 'extra' options in GRUB's menu there's a failsafe mode. I'm not sure if it loads networking for you to browse but try it just to see if it boots then the significant cheatcode can be chased from within all of them.

There is a fail-safe mode, I didn't see where it has anything to do with ACPI, but I will give that a try. I finally got Ubuntu installed (the CD-ROM was good enough to boot the Live CD, but had too many errors to do a full install -- a little CD swap took care of that). Ubuntu runs, but running a webpage with flash sends the CPU usage to 100%, so I need to run a bit leaner.
I'll try Antix in the fail-safe mode and see what happens. Thanks for the response.

Now running the AntiX 8.5 Live CD in failsafe mode, it did connect to my wireless network very nicely. Now, I need to decide whether to install it or stay with Ubuntu....decisions, decisions. I do like how fast it is (as fast as hard drive Ubuntu, I do believe)
Thanks!
Thanks!

Now you may see all the extra parameters on the failsafe option and pinpoint the one that enables antiX to boot (noacpi must be among them). I'm just saying because I don't know if something else useful is disabled as well.
