Its a Dell Inspiron 8100 Laptop with a built in touchpad as well as a thumb mouse and 2 sets of left and right clickers.

Its running antiX 13.2 but with a 3.2..0-4-486 kernel so that it can do 1600x1200 for the built in nvidia card.

I generally don't use the thumb mouse. The touchpad mouse has a hard time staying where you move it long enough to be able to click. And sometimes it fires off 3 or 4 copies of a program after being clicked once. And its very difficult to scroll, for example to scroll back in an xterm session is a frustrating nightmare. Its like playing a game where you can't make the mouse do what you want. And inevitably, when you don't want it to scroll, it does, and backwards, LOL.

Ok, I looked at dmesg and Xorg.0.log for errors, and tried adjusting the mouse settings in the console.

I don't know what to try next? Any ideas, please?

I copied what appeared to be relevant into a text file....

Hold off on this...

I installed a couple of packages (tpconfig and gpointing-device-settings) to control it and made some adjustments. Let me see if that fixes it before anyone else spends time on it, unless of course you happen to have seen the problem before, in which case an easy answer would be appreciated.

Yup, its fixed.

It works correctly now in chromium, leafpad and xterm, and the problems I'm having in netsurf are different, so I think the netsurf problems ARE netsurf problems.

I fixed it by changing the settings with gpointing-device-settings

editing the file 'dkms' in etc/modprobe.d/ can do can help too - see:

duncan,

i've bookmarked it, and if nothing else, might use it to test to see if problems are really at the system level or application software. The only program still having problems is netsurf, and I see we are using a two year old version there, so I am thinking the remaining problem is likely in that program. I haven't figured out how to go about getting that fixed, if possible, but that's another issue.

Thanks __{{emoticon}}__
