Greetings antiX Forum.

I am a newbie who is having fun with a 15 year old PC. I blew away Windows and XP, and loaded antiX MX-14.3 from an Install/Live CD which I got from the nice folks at OSDisk.com in Denver. I am sorting through several little learning opportunities as I get settled in. One of them is this:

I cannot print using my network printer. It is a Samsung Xpress M2835DW, a simple laser printer, realtively new. The antiX"Printer Connections Tool" (if I may call it that) recognizes that the printer is present, and tries to find a driver for it. Failing, it recommends a"Generic" driver. I click to indicate go ahead with that and it freezes up... does absolutely nothing. Reboot, try again, same result.

The printer is a known good device, serving other PCs (one Xubuntu 14.03, the other Windows 8.1) on my Ethernet hub device. That's the same hub device through which I am now communicating with you. But this antiX loaded PC cannot yet talk over the same cable with the printer (no wireless).

Any guidance from you folks would be appreciated. Below is my system's basic information:

Thanks a million.
Hank

Also. I made up a short how to for searching for solutions to AntiX problems at

how-to-search-for-a-solution-when-you-have-a-antix-problem-t5387.html

That might be of assistance and cut down on waiting time to get your printer working.

You are running MX-14 by the way so I am going to edit the title to your thread.

For more eyes on your issue. I might suggest you join and post at

Yes, I did. I did not find a match for my printer there, but it inspired me to search about on the web for a bonafide Linux driver for the printer. I found the Samsung download site in England and downloaded a zip file into a directory on this PC. I unzipped it and the files are sitting there in the directory, waiting for me to move forward in some sane way. They are UNIX/Linux style shell scripts alright. However, I still have to learn how to get MX-14.3 to internalize that information so that it becomes an option when I"select" a printer driver. Maybe your search"how-to" will help me find my way with it.

Thank you for the mental capital you have put into that. I will make a point to become well acquainted with it.

I appreciate your making it clearer for those who would read the thread.

Good idea. I joined up there on the MX & MEPIS Community Forum. Thanks again for everything, Roky. I can't believe how much fun it is to be back to the UNIX $ prompt again after so many years away from it. A lot has changed, but so much is just like it was before.

Hank

P.S. UPDATE
The solution turns out to be a workaround for the GUI Print Settings Tool, which has problems with MX-14.3 The solution is explained on the MX-MEPIS Community Forum. You can read about it
