I use wvdial, no problem, but is there a good way for non-techies like my sister?

gonna use luddite on her old laptop.

can gnome-ppp or such tools be used with wvdial.conf?

I believe gnome-ppp is included by default. There have been some reports of problems this release, so hopefully it works for you.

Sure. Could not get it to work either.
And get it set up with a mobile internet modem, messing with ppp files? Never.
I made a simple script that can be clicked on from icewm-rox. it uses gksu to start a terminal which does

wvdial net (appropriate section of wvdial)

primitive but now one can connect by clicking and entering root password..
