With antiX, my tired old Toshiba 4015CDS is"rocking" once again. I would like to use it as my primary computer and let the desktop system function just as my web server. I could tuck everything away in a closet and eliminate a computer stand.
The vintage notebook is hardware constrained to 800x600 screen resolution.
But ... and there is always a but, isn't there? ... some web sites (especially ESPN) seem to assume that the viewer is working in 1024x768 or better. With sites like CNN and BBC, I can scroll around. ESPN just overlays text on text. Probably a java thing but extremely annoying. Difficult to check out college football scores.
Sure, I could hit eBay and buy a more fragile but newer notebook computer. But isn't breathing life into"obsolete stuff" what antiX is all about? Besides, I am not about to dump this really-nice old computer, for the same reason I won't retire my 1977 German diesel just because diesel is more expensive than petrol -- they don't make stuff like they used to.
End rant.
