is it ethical/legal for folks to sell free distros? theres folks selling 32 gb usb drives on ebay for $38 USD with multiboot Linux OS (including Antix); an empty USB sells for about $10 so they are charging $20 for the software being installed. seems iffy to me.

the old model was to give away the OS for free and charge for support. I would guess that you could argue that those guys on ebay did put time into makeing the multiboot USBs, so I don't see anything wrong with their activity. I also wouldn't buy one.zarg2 wrote:is it ethical/legal for folks to sell free distros? theres folks selling 32 gb usb drives on ebay for $38 USD with multiboot Linux OS (including Antix); an empty USB sells for about $10 so they are charging $20 for the software being installed. seems iffy to me.

Same as D.O.
I would not buy one.
But I can see how someone used to buying windows or mac would buy one.
The world is a big place and the needs of some are different than others.
Ethics has nothing to do with it and no laws are being broken.
(That I know of, anyways)

Lots of people don't want to take the time or effort to search and investigate all the different distros out their. So you have people who have downloaded a lot of different distros, and are willing to burn them to a 16 Gb usb (which can be bought as low as $3 USD on ebay) for sale. To some this is a convenience. To others it is a waste of money.
