Any tips for switching to a libre kernel? I just tried it on a new install before upgrading. When I then upgraded, I got lots of messages about config files having been changed and whether to accept a new config files or keep existing config file.

Yes. I removed contrib and non free and added multimedia main. I'm trying to go with a libre operating system (except for boot).

So should I accept the new config files or keep the existing ones?

It depends. Most of the time I would keep existing ones.

Thanks. So I should examine each one. How do I make a determination whether to keep or replace. I don't believe I have sufficient knowledge to decide on my own without some general advice.

If you haven't changed any of the files manually, it probably safe to go ahead and accept the new ones. Otherwise, you can open a editor and examine each one to see what the changes are. Most configuration files are fairly well documented.
