I have been running Antix 13.2 and W2k dual boot on a Thinkpad T22. I went through a lot of struggles to get everything to work, especially the Linksys Wireless Adapter. I succeeded with the great help of people on this forum. One thing I could not resolve was from a cold start, Antix would never fully boot up that I could use it. I first booted up W2k, then hit restart and Antix started everytime.
I had enough of that I wiped the hard drive clean with Acronis with the intent of installing Antix 13.2 by itself. I downloaded the iso and burned it to a CD. The laptop will not recognize that there is a cd in the drive. I get MBR error 1, Press any key to boot from floppy.... It will recognize my UBCD 5.2.9 CD. I tried several times to force it to the CD by hitting F12 and selecting the CD drive.

Maybe a corrupted download then. You need to check the md5sum first.
Burn iso as a Image on good cdr disk as slowest speed. I use 4x on mine.
Never fails when I follow both procedures.
I have some older laptops that won't boot off of cdrw disks either but will work ok on cdr.

I have downloaded the md5sum file, but really don't know how to proceed.
I had burned the iso to a cdrw, so maybe that is the problem. I was sure the laptop read the antix iso when W2k was still installed.

What software was used to burn the cd? Some programs will default to burning a data cd that contains the iso file instead of using the iso file as a cd image. If you can mount the cd you burned on another machine, look at its contents. If it contains a single file like: then this is the problem. The contents should be:where I'm using trailing slashes to denote directories.
This is a common problem and would explain the symptoms you've described. A normal data cd won't have a bootable mbr and won't be recognized as a bootable device.
Code: Select all
antiX-13.2_386-full.iso
Code: Select all
antiX/ boot/ cdrom.ico version

I looked at the cd and it has one file listed. When I click on that file only then does it show what you have in the second code box.
I did find out how to check the md5sum and they match. I will try a CDR disk.

That's the problem. You need to burn it as a cd image. There are probably instructions for doing that with the program you used. You could search for the name of the program plus"cd image".chzuck wrote:I looked at the cd and it has one file listed. Yes, one must burn in ISO mode, and I agree with your idea to use a CD-R disk. None of my ThinkPads from the T22 era will read an RW disk. Some have trouble with anything other than factory pressed disks.

Sometimes it is just the brand of cd that gives the drive fits. For years I have used Ridata, and have very few coasters. I purchase them online from

in bulk. (About $17 USD per 100. Sometimes there is even free shipping. I usually get it within 7 days.)

There are times I think I need to ditch the T22. I burned a cdr and it recognized it. Then I stuck a cdrw in and it recognized it as well. With the cdr with antix mx14 on the install for a live cd was moving along, then the screen went blank while the cd was still running and eventually nothing.
Just now I loaded the cdr with Mx14 and it completed the live cd install, D-link wireless adapter connected to my network with problems and I was able to surf.
With a processor speed of 900Mhz on the T22, am I better with Antix 13.2 or Antix MX14? From the little bit I have seen of MX14, there is a lot more stuff to select from. I had run Antix 13.2 dual boot for some time and did have script issues with iceweasal some times.
