Hi, does anyone have a minute to explain the kernel upgrade process?
I have Luddite installed on a pendrive:
antiX1 Kernel: 3.7.10-antix.3-486-smp i686 (32 bit)
Desktop: Fluxbox 1.3.5 Distro: antiX-13_386-base Luddite 01 June 2013
And I think using:
apt-cache search linux-image
I get a whole list of available kernel images .
I also have 'sudo apt-get install linux-image-x.x.x-xx' to install a newer kernel version.
But then I don't see an exact match where it says 'antix.3'.
Really as far as I can tell everything is fine, so I am not concerned to upgrade unless it's advisable.
What do you think? __{{emoticon}}__

Search using antix as a search term. I am not sure about kernel upgrades on your usb since you did not mention what type of usb install.

If you want to run antiX as a rolling release, use Testing (or Sid) repos and regularly upgrade your kernel. Make sure you keep at least one good working one just in case.
If you have old hardware and the kernel you are using works ok for you and you don't want to upgrade and just keep things as stable as possible, use Wheezy repo and default kernel,

Best to get the latest linux-image-3.9.5-antix.1-486-smp
Get its headers if you need to build nvidia drivers for example.
It should automaticall upgrade the initramfs and grub. If it doesn't, then after installing run these two commands in a root terminal.
If grub is on another partition you will have to edit that menu.lst by hand.

Ok. Then just be aware that constantly upgrading (ie writing) to the pendrive *might* cause it to die sooner rather than later.
