I used metapackage installer to change from 4.4.10 regular kernel to 4.4.10 libre kernel - no problem. Then did dist-upgrade - no problem

But when I then tried to use metapackage installer to upgrade to 4.6.2 libre kernel, it won't do it.

How can I upgrade to the most recent libre kernel?

Looks like a bug in the installer package. I'll fix it asap

BTW there is a newer kernel available in the repos. 4.8.10

Actually it looks ok. Post inxi -r so we can see what repos you are using.

Did you also install the headers for that kernel? The output you posted suggests that you didn't.

No, I don't know how. That's why I wanted to use metapackage installer.

But my computer seems to work okay without them. Nonetheless, I suppose it is desirable to have them?

It is necessary if you need/want to install apps that expect it -eg Virtualbox
